DIY: Improve AV6 Motor Mounts

Hard launches with FWD vehicles using performance tires and upgraded power often stress both motor and transmission mounts which cause the drivetrain movements resulting in wheelhop, loss of traction and yes loss of power.

This is a solution to take your OEM motor/tranny mounts to the next level and it only cost $5 + your labor. The benefit of this design is additional strength despite it's flexibility, thanks to a polyurethane.

Keep in mind this method won't deliver the same results as solid polyurethane inserts or complete custom mounts, however it's definitely better than your stock units even if you have a brand new set.

The stock mounts have gaps which allow the center of the mount to move up and down excessively, so by using polyurethane you can fill those gaps to restore worn out mounts, reduce unwanted motor assembly movement and deliver more power to the ground.

Premixed polyurethane can be purchased at Menards or Home Depot for $5 a tube (I chose Menards due to available black color). This sealant designed for different purpose of course :D, however it works with metal and rubber, so that's all we need. In addition, it withstands any weather condition and high temperature. And 1 tube is enough to fill 2 tranny and 3 motor mounts (front, side, rear).

All engine/tranny mounts should be removed prior to use the polyurethane and if unable you can lift the engine and fill them up that way (not much convenient but it works). This source is not a liquid (more like tooth paste) so no duct tape necessary to cover the other end, just use a cardboard underneath when you fill them up. Place all mounts outside and let them sit on the sun for 8 hours or so each day to harden the solution faster. You can start using mounts after 24-30 hours.

Enjoy!

Will the PU harden throughout even in thick layer? Yesterday I filled my passenger and the bigger tranny mounts completely (image in garage as I can;t post images yet) and when I press them in fingers it feels like the surface hardened to about 1/4" deep, but the inside is still viscous.

Any trick to unbolt the rear mount top nut? I´m unable to apply sufficient torque and keep the socket extension stable at the same time when bowed over the engine, all I did after almost destroying my hands was to rotate the whole mount a bit, the nut did´nt move slightest bit on the thread.

So which mounts do i have to buy from them?
Do the also make the front mount and passenger side mount?
I have seen they have the cl type-s m/t mounts. They also have the accord v6 a/t mount but what i was wondering if the v6 mount kit comes with the front and passenger side mount as well or is that a custom order?

I talked to one of the customer representatives and he said the mount kit comes with the front rear and passenger side mount. Not the driver side tranny mount. He said whatever the picture has is what the kit looks like. Kinda being a dik like he had to rush somewhere else. Does anybody know if anybody makes polyurethane driver tranny mounts?

The passenger side looks very workable, so I am not worried about that. But the front and the rear looks challenging. Do you work on these from the top or underneath? I'd imagine you need lots of extension if working from the top.

The rear mount doesn't look reachable withouth removing a few other parts. If working from underneath, there looks to be a subframe to deal with. I might have to let a pro do the rear.

The tranny mounts...I can't locate them from the top, are they only visible from underneath?

Sorry, lots of noob questions.

i did the same thing to my engine mounts and idk how i managed to still break them lol. they worked good and felt nice and stiff. the back and front mounts broke and started leaking. all this on my auto j32 when i had it .

and i put on my innovatives it doesnt feel much diff.

if you are doing a j32 swap and it came with an auto, the rear brackets are different than the j32 that came with the manual and are different than the j30.

if you have innovative mounts already on your j30 and want to use it with a j32 6 speed swap . you can use the rear engine mount bracket from the j30 and bolt it on to the j32 and still be using the back , front and passenger mount .

just helping out anyone if they didnt know.

I just ordered 60a liquid polyurethane ( high temp) and will be filling
my new oem Honda mounts more like the thread on Acuraz...by( distortedolskool) and let
the mounts cure for 3-4 days to fully harden- Better results ( imo )than poly from home depot )( no disrespect to anybody) if interested in company used..By Innovative Polymers (InnoTuf HP 2160a ) http://www.innovative-polymers.com/contact-us (989) 224- 9500 ask for Bill Molitor(or Scott) You get 2 lbs of the resin,
and approx 1 lb of hardener- And they have 78a shore rating in case you want a tougher poly than 60a. High performance liquid polyurethane-
I will be posting pics very soon..have my new oem mounts taped up ready for pouring..(credit goes to Distortedolskool for idea)
