Valve adjustment on 3.0 V6

Hello everyone,

I couldnt find the right subforum to post this technical question in, so I guess this is as good as any. Someone had posted this message at another forum:

"Is it neccessary to tune valves? How often should they be tuned? The dealership tried to get me to have it done at 45K (now at 60K) but I declined. They wanted $250! Thx, Jacobus"

He is refering to the 3.0 V6 with variable valve timing. I had no idea that this engine required valve lash adjustments. I figured it would have hydraulic self adjusting lifters....but what do I know???? Does anyone have the low-down on this??? I have 80K miles on my coupe now and have never had to do anything to it (just the occasional maintenance). any info would be helpful.

Thanks

$250! I had to pay $400 to have my valves adjusted! I needed it though because of my new cams.

I am not sure of the service interval, or if there even IS one!

The manual I have clearly states, that they need adjusting "when they begin making excessive noise."

And to clear it up for you, there is NO HYDRAULICE SELF-ADJUSTMENT on the J30a1 engines. They are all mechanical adjustments.

It isn't very hard if you pull the spark plugs out

without plugs you probably can turn crankshaft with your bare hands.
