Here is a quote from hondata

"Is there anyone in SoCal with an 06 MT that could assist us with testing an 07 ECU? Please PM me."

Hope this means what I think it means...

Hmm. Maybe, if I can find one, I'd get an 07-08 longblock, harness and ECU. Maybe that is the route to go for all of us that misshift/need a rebuild and might as well go with the J32? Only problem is, I never see the later year J32 engines for sale.

So if we did get an 07-08 J32, would we also have to get the J35 MT ecu and harness, and would they work with the J32?

Get 'er done!! One thing though Paul; I heard a guy on Azine say something like only the 07 TL ECU will work? Something to do with the immobilizer?

I want to go after the 08-09 ECU rather than the 07, if we also have to swap the transponder pickup, so be it, 07 ECUs are actually harder to find in the yards than the 08-09, so paying $60 more for the transponder and $250 for the used ECU, vs $600 for the new ECU makes better sense to me.

Oh okay. Only reason I said anything is because someone over on Azine was able to use an 07 ECU and fit it with his 6G J35a8 swap. I don't think the 09 ECU is supported by Hondata...

This is true. 2007 and 2008 TL-S ECM's only. Also, immobilizer ecu's must be used with the same year ECM. In other words, 07 ECM can only be used with an 07 immobilizer, they will not interchange from year to year...trust me people I know. The reason being is the code production of the ecu's are different and are totally different in their "languages" even though they are both type IV systems. One thing that is a possibility is the using an 09+ immobilizer with an 08 TL-S ECM but I haven't tested nor confirmed that.

One more thing, I was told Hondata uses ECM part numbers to match their software with so this means that anyone thinking of using the j35a8 RL ECM may not be able to. However, if there's anyone that wants to test the idea, I have an 07 RL ECM on my shelf and would be willing to send out for testing purposes. If there's a way to broaden the avenues, I'm all in to help.

I have successfully mated an 04 wiring harness with the 07 TL-S ECM so if anyone is needing assistance or help, don't hesitate to PM me. I still have an inch thick packet of notes and information from my j35a8 swap...which can be viewed at Azine under the same name I have on here.

Good luck.

Need more info yung on what you know about the RL ecu. I wrote them asking if it would work for a RL ecu since its the same engine and they said no. I would assume they don't even care to think about it, it's just easier to say no and move on. Can you think of any reason it wouldn't work?

Honestly, the only two things I can think in regards to differences is unmatched part numbers and instead controlling cooling fan relays, the RL ECM controls a module (RFCM) to control the fans.

Other than that, tuning may be one of the biggest possible factors in terms of incompatibility with Hondata's FlashPro. Two engines that are ran differently by application: RL for large sedan style torque and the TL-S for high spirited rev happy driving. However, the reason I believe there may be a possibility is due to their similarities: physical casing, circuit boards, connectors A and E similarities and similar (again but different) part numbers.

So I guess the better question is could someone use a 08 acura TL type S ECU to run a Acura RL?
