Tweeters anyone?

So I've stopped by an audio shop today to install my amp and sub for the coupe, and I kinda want to install a pair of tweeters on it as well. The guy quotes me $170 for everything (tweeters+installation fee and installation fee for my sub and amp +converter box) which I think I can have him done it for $140. Does anyone here have tweeters on the car? How is the exp with them?

I have tweeters with new front speakers (component + amp). Really nice highs and new mids. I mounted them on the side mirror sails. You have to discount the stock tweeter or else it would screw up your sound stage (unless you are planing to use the OEM tweeter wiring)

You mean those two next to the windshield?

Yeah. those 2. I discounted mine since I have component tweets with a crossover box.

Lol I forgot about those 2 till you mentioned them. Probably just stick with the sub and amp for now since I don't like the tweeters the shop has. Btw, I wonder if I can connect my aux from the back of the factory radio to use with my MP3 or I have to get the GTA car kit.

I've never heard a car with stand alone tweeters that I liked. Too "chirpy" especially when road noise starts to drown out low end sounds

Best Sound I've heard was from upgraded speakers/tweeters (built into the door) as the highs are not aimed directly at your ears

Any pictures of you mounting em to the side mirror interior covers? To my knowledge there isn't much depth to mount them there due to the harness for the mirror.

I replaced my speakers with components in the stock locations (door and dash). I used speakers that have in-line crossovers so I didn't have to run extra speaker wire. I am also using a converter to go to my amp and have by-passed the factory crossover on the stock HU. Sounds great. I prefer the tweeters in the stock location for a couple reasons. First, I prefer the factory look and no body can tell I have upgraded anything (until they hear it). Also with the tweeters in the stock locations you get the reflection off the windshield and since the difference in distance form your ear is less, you will hear both better and have better separation. With them in the doors or sail panels, you have one right next to your ear and the other 4 feet away. You're going to hear more out of the one next to your ear. This is my preference, you do what you prefer.

I did have to cut and mod the stock tweeter mount to get the new larger tweets to fit, but the sound is greatly improved.

So I decided not to install the tweeters cuz there is not enough depth in the mirror sails, tho the audio guy kept insisting me to mount them right above the seat-belts area. He offered me a pair of Powerbass L-1A for $42 including installation fee.

I'm not crazy, the audio guy who recommends that installation is crazy.

Do you have pics of those tweeters?

Oh I see lol what did you guys use? I had mine mounted the same way with like double sided tape but it just sitting there seem too tacky so I relocated into stock locations, BUT it was much better to hear them when they were on the mirror sills.

@nanana

Hifonics. Nothing too expensive but they sound really nice.

A lot of the luxury cars have their tweeter mounted by on the sails. My dad MDX and mom Lexus for example So much be a reason. I also have a pioneer H/U so everything sounds 1000% better and an amp to power these up.

My previous car, '07 Corolla S, has tweeters on the mirror sails as well. That's the reason why I want to install them as that place. Does anyone here have exp on Pb (Powerbass)?

My budget is kinda tight right now after I spend it on Ultra music festival tickets and a new TV So the tweeters must have to be postponing until after X'Mas. What are the best tweeters for the bucks you recommend?

I replaced my stock speakers with a pair of infinity reference tweeters in the same location with no amp. Honestly I can't hear a damn difference and it sounds like a waste of 38 dollars.

Which tweeters did you go with f1? I've upgraded all of my speakers but the tweeters. Just dont know which one to go for. How did you write them up, with the stock harness?

Speakers will really sing after you put an amp to them. I have infinity kappas, just the two ways in my doors and in the rear deck and there is a noticeable difference, much clearer. I have a jl audio jx360/4 hooked up to them. Still debating on adding seperate tweeters in either the stock or mirror sails right now

Running all of the wires cleanly through the car is really the hardest part. It just takes time and patience.

Really? I might as well hook up my 4-channel amp with stock speakers for now then.

This^

And do not amp your stocks you WILL blow them they are designed to run at the RMS given by your stock headunit which is garbage.

For those who want tweeters, my recommendation is a good set of components. I run Polk Audio DXI components in the front. They run 100 watt RMS, my Pioneer HU is running 50w per channel like most, which is drastically underpowering em. Looking soon to invest in a solid amp at 100 watt per channel RMS to match up, got Polk Audio DXI 6x9s by well and the bass and such is amazing as is for what I have being so underpowered. The 5 band EQ on my pioneer is great too. Just mounting tweeters is a hassle.
