~ FURTHER EXPLANATION FROM JACK@UNICHIP ~
Per your request, we did some testing to look at the benefits of moving the VTEC in a CL-S cam equipped Gen 6 Accord. This chart represents the results. As previously stated, we can move the VTEC anywhere.
For this evaluation, we turned VTEC “on” and did several runs. Then we turned VTEC “off” and did several runs. Results from those runs are plotted in this chart against a “standard” pull to show what impact the changes have. The Red plots represent a standard VTEC setting with the Unichip installed. The Orange plots shows performance with VTEC always on (transition at 1000 rpm); low rpm performance suffers dramatically, but when the engine accelerates to ~ 4200 rpm the cam performs as designed. The Green plot shows performance with VTEC always off (transition at 6000 rpm); the engine intially runs great since that’s where the cam profile is optimim, but as the engine accelerates through ~ 3500 rpm, performance falls off significantly.
Can the VTEC be moved? Yes, it can be moved anywhere in the rpm band... a few rpm in one direction or the other, or all the way to idle or not until redline. Is there a potential power gain, perhaps a small one. Is it significant, no.
The stock transition is positioned pretty much where it needs to be. To compare the significance of a potential change, the blue line represents Torque without the Unichip. Note the maximum difference in the transition area available by playing with VTEC is less than half the difference gained by adding the Unichip in the first place, and is limited to a very narrow rpm band.
4. For those concerned about meeting and passing your state's smog and emission standards, not to worry!!. Here's why . . .
Smog test with the UniChip done at a California State Run Facility, which is the hardest and most stringent emissions test to pass in the world. My car is running the Comptech SC, Comptech Headers, V6P ground wire kit, stock cat, 2.5” single pipe exhaust, and Magnaflow muffler. Running 8psi of boost with the UniChip the car is laying down 259whp. I passed emissions running 8psi of boost.
