Alright so after having it sit in my living room for three days, burning a hole in my carpet...djpm05 and i put my TL shift assembly into my accord =].
The DIY is coming, but for now...I'm just gonna post the final pictures, and then go to sleep. There are still a few things I need to work out. First, I'm gonna cut down part of the black cover on the shift assembly so that the center woodgrain trim will sit flat where it used to be (it's kinda bowed up for now). Second I'm gonna try to find a new trim idea. maybe chrome? maybe a shift boot conversion on top of the gated shifter =]? Third djpm05 and I are gonna wire up my windows to the tiptronic.

This is the gap. Not nearly as bad as other people's...but still there. I'm gonna see if I can get my hands on another accord trim piece and fix this.

I need to cut off part of the black cover on the shift assembly to fix the woodgrain trim...and I think I'm gonna put some washers under the front 2 bolts to even out the shifter assembly.

DIY coming soon...stay tuned =]. Oh, and I wanna give a huge thanks to djpm05 for spending pretty much the entire day helping me with this. Oh man did we run into delays =P. Post up comments guys!!! =]

if you have (or know someone who has) a CL/TL (type-S or not) shift knob that they don't need...lemme know. free would make me happy...but i'm willing to buy (if the price is right).

nicely done, congratulation.....
Chrome should do good for the base instead of shift boost because you can show off your base though

exactly! buying a shift boot would make this conversion pointless

You get the "feel" of shifting
Also, does your shifter light up? Does this conversion not turn the light on or is my light just burnt out? Hahah, I have a spanking brand new Type-S knob hanging around.

THANKS GUYS!! It might be a while before I have time to work out all the fitment issues....but i'll get it done!
Boob -- the lights on the shifter itselt work just fine. they're actually brighter than my stock one, haha.
PFizzle -- i like the gated shifter better because there's no button to push...and c'mon...you can't tell me that that shifter doesn't look better than the stock one! =P hehe
I figured if I put the shift boot on there, anyone other than myself and djpm05 wouldn't know how to shift gears in my car. No button...no clutch....it's some sort of phantom transmission!!!

alright...so some "issues" that i ran into today when i was modifying everything to make the shifter assembly fit and the trim not bow up...
1) shifter assembly needs some heavy cutting around the corners
Solution: it's all plastic and i got myself a dremel today so i just have to find a free weekend to take the shifter assembly back out...draw some lines and make some cuts =]. (i got the cordless one cause i don't have an extension cord like you, david...haha)
2) the dirt cover (the plastic that surrounds the stick and goes under the silver top trim) is larger than the stock one (cause this one goes side to side too). when you shift from P to D4 (on the shifter) everything is fine...but anything past that...will start to get really hard to shift into. this is because the dirt cover has nowhere to go and is running into the cupholder and the trim piece.
Solution: since the accord cupholder has a place for 2 cups, i'm gonna have that modified to where there's only space for one cup. the other indention will be left open underneath and covered with fiberglass and painted to match the rest of the cupholder. this will allow the dirt cover on the shifter about 4-5 more inches of room to move back towards the center console...thus no obstruction and smoother shifting. as for the trim (i'm talking about the black/woodgrain) that surrounds everything down there...on the underside i had to cut off the front-inside screw hole and the plastic around it. this allows the dirt cover to slide by without rubbing and without being bent @ a sharp angle down. other than that...there was just a little bit of shaving going on to perfect it.
3) shifter assembly tilts towards the front of the car
Solution: washers. underneath the front two bolts...i'll have to experiment and see how many washers i need =].
4) shifter assembly sits higher than the trim around it (again...the black/woodgrain).
Solution: the trim ring that comes around the shifter assembly is gonna have to be modified and added to. luckily i've done quite a lot of business with an autosound shop here in town and they can do all that molding/fiberglass/bondo sheeit so i'm gonna take my car in and have them redo a trim ring for me that will be bigger top to bottom to make the shifter look a normal height. they'll also be the ones modifying my cupholders. i wish i knew how to fiberglass =/.
So far those are the only issues i see...if i find anything else i'll update again =]. now i just need a weekend away from school and work!

wow looks amazing man, i love the perforated leather stiching on the Type S knob.
so you also have the TL-S steering wheel ?
also to complete your interior, get a Momo CF E-Brake handle, i think it would really complement the new shifter assembly....

November 19th, 2005, 11:00 PM
yea i haven't figured out if/what i'm gonna do to my e-brake. as for the steering wheel...i'm waiting to find a cheap CL-S wheel that i can swap. if i do swap the wheels, i want the airbag module for the steeringwheel cause i wanna make it all black. which should be find cause it'll match with pieces of my interior. the shift knob feels great. you might be able to tell what my shifter looks like after i made modifications to the trim to make it fit...hopefully i'll level out the shifter assembly this wednesday or tuesday night. and then the trim piece and cupholders will be fabricated by a shop for me to complete the look and make it look OEM =]

you should figure out a way to take out the number setup from the original shifter and swap it out with the acura one so the gear number matches the gear you are in.

i was just thinking about that this morning actually. all it is is a piece of clear plastic with some paint on one side...so i might cut them up and see how i can glue them together in just the right place to make it say P, R, N, D4, D3, 2, 1 instead of starting from D5. and yea...when i'm in 1<>2...then i can move the stick left and right and nothing happens. still waiting for some time to level out this shifter and then i'm gonna work on the window thing with djpm05.
