yea, and get the wiring harness, it makes things 100x easier, you can uninstall and install your radio in a minute if you have the harness attached to it :)

About the wiring harness. If I have an aftermarket radio and got another one do I need a new harness? I don't know jack about audio. What about Alpine to Alpine?

ok! i have two questions :)

1st -- how the heck do you keep the from losing the botton two screws that old the radio in!? they're not really magnetic, and i almost lost one. my fingers are too big and it's VErY risky to have the screws sit on the tip of the screwdriver. i hope someone knows what i'm talking about.

2nd -- i read that with the stereo tehre should be a 10amp fuse (for alpine). i JUST thought of this, the fuse is in the fuse box, right? the last time i installed an alpine i didn't put a fuse in there.

For question #1 just get a magnetic tip scredriver, they are really affordable these days, or if you lose it just get a telescoping magnet. Those are a life saver. Or just stick some adhesive or gum on the top of the screw, and pray it will hold :)

Just an FYI, in case anyone is reading the comments:

I had purchased a stereo mounting kit for my 2K Accord, but when I pulled the original stereo out, I noticed that the brackets that hold it on are universal for 6th gen Accords. That means that LXs (with the storage bin below the radio) use the same brackets. So instead of purchasing a mounting kit, one can order the storage bin box from a Honda dealer (or get the part # and order from the net, I had it once but not anymore), and use the brackets to mount directly to your new stereo (note: you do NOT need the cage at this point). Then bolt the brackets back onto the dash. Very factory look, and you dont have to worry about the cage.

And the storage bin wasnt much more expensive than the mounting kit.

i second doom's post. i have a kenwood deck with a wiring harness, & if i want to change to pioneer or alpine will the harness still work?

You can just chop the wires in half, or just buy a new harness adapter. I usually cut mine off for the first two changes, after that I feel its too hacked and buy a new one.

Just make sure you keep track of the wire colors from the harness adapter and make sure you solder them to the correct leads on the new Alpine harness. Luckily, the few leads that you can do the most damage with by reversing (switch +12V, constant +12V, and ground) are all the same colors across any kind of harness, so you only really risk reversing speaker leads which isnt so bad.

I should work fine. It just depends how much wire is left on the adapter harness. I solder my connections, so every new stereo only get's about 1/4" of wire cut off, so there's be plenty of wire for 20 or so stereos. I would just un solder them but I'm usually to lazy and opt to just lop off the soldered part. It just depends how much wire you use each time. The wire colors are universal colored at least for the major harness makers(metra, scosche) so if you forget the colors just look them up online somewhere.

at the time it was created 2002 wasn't out yet. 2001 and 2002 are IDENTICAL.

If an aftermarket cd player was installed using a cage, then radio removal keys will allow you to take out the deck. You just need to take off the face, take out the trim piece, slide the keys in and pull.

I have an EX model, so I can use functions on my steering wheel. If I changed the CD receiver those functions on my wheel would not work correct?

being bitter about my avic-d1 being stolen I want this sticky taken down NOW! hahah j/k BUT there is also a way to theft proof your radio that some of you may want to think of while doing a headunit install. It can't stop them but it will sure slow them down.

Step 1
Notice the four phillips/hex screws that bolt the mounts to the radio to the chassis, take one of these to Lowes/Home depot and find the same thread but in different head types. For example I have 2 allan heads, 1 oem phillips, and 1 bit spanner screw holding my radio in. It would take THREE tools to simply unbolt my radio and hopefully no thief would be carrying all 3.

Step 2
There are 2 very solid structural supports on either side behind your radio, you'll notice some substantial bolts running through them. I ran a wire strap from the screws on the side of my radio that run through the mounting bracket and into the head unit to these bolts on the structural tubing. These were installed between the headunit and the side mounting brackets, and then once the unit was in place i used the slack to bolt it up. (I can take a pic later to explain)

None of this can prevent a theft of course but hopefully will give you enough time to either catch them and find your baseball bat or hopefully make them give up (most thiefs don't like to spend all day trying to remove a headunit.... looks a little suspicious)

I have that same setup in my car the instructions does not explain the tweeters up there. I have removed my harness fromt eh stock radion and noticed there is twenty sockets in the harness. I may have to ring out the wires and get back to you.

I searched but maybe I just didn't find it. Has anyone installed a cd player from a different model honda than can play mp3's or maybe even another manufactures radio like maybe toyota? I know you can take scion cd player and put it in the new 4runners. Wanted a radio to play mp3s but look stock.

you can always go to an electronics store and buy an aux converter and hook your mp3 up to that. It would work on the stock radio that you have
