Lightbulb Check out new BMW M4!

BMW M4 (new name for the next generation M3) will have 400hp V8 engine, according to some article. Nice...but I bet its price will be near $60K.

hey Viper are you sure about that new name thing, thats not what i read, i read that the M4 is a totally different machine that they are considering as a limited edition and the M3 will still be made along side it.
as far as BMW history goes, whenever they make a model with a even number name designation, its usually a limited or special edition run, see 6 series, 8 series, Z8, so they are contemplating the M4 as a limited edition.
plus why would you say that and in the same attachment form that magazine, it shows, the M6, the M5, and the M3 at the bottom, right below the M3.

i think you read or heard wrong.

Those cars are just sick

What I can't figure out is why have both an M3 and an M4 if they have the same V8 engine .

You could be right snikwad but the Z4 is not a limited edition car.

the next M3 will be done like the E36 coupe, cabriolet, sedan and a touring (wagon) model.
yeah the Z4 is not special but oh well, they did that cause they just didnt want it to be a Z3, since it was all new.

It's called an M6

This name designation stuff with BMW is starting to get a bit confusing. And you thought Mercedes Benz was bad .

coupes and convertibles now use even numbers, and sedans will now use odd numbers. THATS OFFICIAL BMW INFO. i cant wait for the 1/2 series to come out, i want a 1 series hatch.

my source? my brain. its not hard to understand it. BMW's been doing it since thier introduction. IE:

5-series - sedan
6-series - coupe
7-series - sedan
8-series - coupe

BMW is merely explanding this into the 1 and 3 series line-ups. its not rocket science, merely marketing. plus, i saw it in C&D.

Well that is all true but that doesn't explain the place of the Z4. Strangely there is no 4 series so is the Z4 a fill in notch for that .

the Z4 was just named the Z4 cause they didnt want to call it a Z3 since it was a brand new design, and they didnt want any confusion between them.
thats it.

Stop arguing!!

2 Series: The 2-Series will be based on the 1-Series. It will come in both coupe and cabrio guise, the cabrio version previewed by the CS1 concept. If the 1-Series is scheduled for 2004, the 2-Series must come later in the year I would expect. M2 is for 2005.

Rumors suggest an incredibly low weight of 2310 pounds. True or not, that figure should be very close to that of the production model. The car will be sold in 3-door and 5-door hatchback forms.

The 216 will come with a-you guessed it!-1.6-liter engine, producing 102hp. 214 with a 1.4-liter engine, making 80hp, will come about a year after introduction. The most expensive 2 will be offered with a 2.3 liter six-cylinder drivetrain making about 170hp. And if the car comes with the rumored weight, it should blow its competitors away. Remember a little achievement of perfection called the Lotus Elise?
