Cutting out resonator from OEM exhaust?

I have two exhaust leaks around the resonator in the stock exhaust. It looks like the welds have rusted out before and after the resonator. I was planning on just cutting out the resonator and replacing it with a straight pipe rather than replacing the whole cat-back. Does anyone know if this will affect what little performance I have? I would think it would flow better but with reduced backpressure by removing the resonator expansion.

And no, I’m not buying aftermarket cat-back. This car is SLOOOOWW and old. It’s not worth it for me to “polish a piece of S#!&”, so to speak. I just want to make a cheap repair on a car that I cannot wait to get rid of.

Any helpful advice is appreciated. Thanks.
