ok thanks. I got mine tested yesterday and it peaked at 74 amps @ 2000 rpm. Is this normal or is my alt going?

I had the guy at autozone test it. And the battery. The battery is still very good.

You alternator is fine.
Machine that they use in AutoZone don't check alternators for maximum output it checks if alternator in working order.

Electrical machines like alternators and motors are designed for some maximum load, if you exceed that mark it doesn't mean machine will not produce (amps) its just mean it will fail prematurely.

Ok. Thanks. I dont put 100% faith in there machine, after all they do test hundreds of em with it..... but theres did have a reading for peak amperage. I saw it my self. And yes ur right running it that high will wear it out prematurly. Any ways I was jsut curious because I know my battery is in very good condition and it likes to sit at about 12.5 volts with the engine and everything off. I just did not want to lose a good battery to sulfation.

But it charges at 14.44 volts and sure has the amps so im not as concerned about it.
Thanks for the help.
