Confused, NEED HELP

whats up everyone, i haven't been here in a while, been real busy. anyways, i was driving home and noticed my lights and dash get real bright for a moment and then dim to normal again. it did this a couple of times and the battery light just barely flashes on and then off again as the voltage stabilizes. i pulled over and checked my voltmeter battery post and i noticed that when i give it gas and let go the power spikes to 18v. this is insane, i don't know if my alternator is going out or if it could be the factory grounds. i replaced my alternator in 2004 and i don't have any subs or amps right now, just my radio and speakers. thanks everyone for your help in advance.

so, you notice a power boost when the engine (and sonsequently the alternator) is accelerated? And a decrease in power when decelerated? sounds like a weak battery

Beat me to it. I always say that to myself when I see cars on the road with headlights that just keep dimming.
