Sony amp

I was wondering what any of you thought of the Sony D1000 P5 amp. It is an 1600 watt class d one channel amp. It will be powering 2 Rockford Fosgate HE2 12" subwoofers. Will this be a nice setup? thanks for the replies

nope, the sony amp's quality sucks!! if u are looking for cheap amps, then it's okay, cause sony is selling thier amp at it's price. but if u r looking for quality, then u might want to try JL's amp or phoenix gold ti's..

LOL damn guys that's harsh. Buddy... the xplod series are overrated... but in your case you will get the performance you had hoped for. The RF woofers will gladly take the power of the sony. Are the RFs ported or sealed?

The guys above are spoiled by the so called "cool" branded amps..

Remember to hold tight to your sony warranty!

i believe all the sony bashing is mostly because of their x-plod line up....the higher end sony audio products like their head units look really nice....

xplod amps= crap

its not so much that you will have trouble, because the sony reliability has never been a problem.... we were thinking more in terms of sound quality. if you've ever owned any higher end amps like JL, phoenix, alpine etc... you will see or hear the difference

yeah I am sorry but I am going with most of ya on this. but me and some stereo people have a saying "they call them Xplode for a reason" I wish you luck with the amp I know several people that have thier sony amp blow.

they headunits are ok there are lot better ones out there Pioneer (Premier), Alpine, eclipesand kenwood.

However I Do like sonys home audio and video eqipment.

sony dose however have this new highend line that is supposed to be made out of titauim or something like that.

as far as car audio goes if you can afford stuff like kicker and alpine go with them for mid to low budgets but if you got the big bucks for comp audiobahn and massive or eve mmatts.

Sony mobile ES units back in the day
simply awesome.... but of course they chose to go mainstream to the masses with lower quality crap for a higher profit margin

alpine is one exception where a mainstream product sold almost everywhere.. is actually good.. good solid chassis, solid cd transport, alpine amps are pretty good.. they do rated power..alpine speakers have good harmonics.. so in that respect Alpine is well respected as a quality mainstream company.

i dont see how alpine is that much better than pioneer. I dont think alpine head units are better at all. The speaker i'd say would be a toss up and amps i'll give the edge to alpine (just cus i know pioneer amps suck).

I think its just cus honda uses alpine products so thats why everyone likes them so much.

PG amps are known for being ineffecient power hungry amps. They do give out their rated power more than enough... but sometimes at the expense of the alternator. And well... sound-wise.. I'd put them with eclipse... bright and tinny.

As for pioneer headunits... if you want flash and stoopid organic EL displays which wash out in the sun.. then by all means go with pioneer... I have respect for their premier P9 and P1R. Well respected circuit designs with clean DAC bit transfer.. meant for musical production.

So dont tell me that pioneer and PG rocks... it's all subjective and this is getting off topic.

I bet you the kid is happy with his sony amp and RF subs.............................................. .........for now

Got my system today, and it sounds good enough for me ! thanks for the tips, now i just wonder how long before i need a new alternator. When I turn my pioneer head unit up past 25 or so at night all the lights in the car blink...

A battery? If the car is on.. all power is coming from the ALT.. and the battery(if ALT output power is above 12V) will recharge the battery... if not the battery will be forced to discharge and offer it's support.. hence the dimming of lights, etc...

So if there are 14.4volt batteries out there.. getting a better battery will only help if he wants to play his system with the engine turned off.. for a longer period of time... common sense man...

If he's raising his volume.. he's sending out a hotter signal to his sub amp.. which inturn is pumping out more power to his subs by drawing in extra current.. in this case more current than his alternator can provide...

1) A cap will only help if you have brief bursts of bass and those bursts are causing slight dimming... LOL ppl with 2 -3 4 caps need to get their heads checked....
2) Upgrade your stock ground wires and your alt power wire.. and main engine ground to 2-4gauge... this will help a little
3) Turn down the gains on the bass amp...or level match it properly with the HU
4) If worse comes to worse... re-wrap the stock core to pump out more power or upgrade to a higher-output ALT....
