3M Friction Tape

I know we were talking about this stuff in a couple threads, but I was wondering some more info on it. Is it adhesive on one side? So you can stick it to the plastic part of the car then just butt it back up against the metal to (hopefully) remove rattles? I was talking to some dude at home depot trying to tell me friction tape wasnt adhesive at all on one side..

friction tape... has an adhesive on both sides.. but will not stick like regular tape... the friction tape sticks to itself... so you can wrap it around wire.. small panels... etc onto itself for a sticky seal.

So then where would friction tape be useful in a sound dampening perspective in our cars? Solely to warp around wires where you could stick it to yourself? I am looking for something I could run down the edge of a panel or something where it butts up against say metal to provide some cushioning inbetween those items, but I'd need at least one side of it to be adhesive so it would stay in place. Any ideas?
