specs look decent. Just figuring.. if you opd for the 2ohm load expect about 60amp draw.... if 30amp draw is max @ 4ohm.

Damping factor is quite low... but anything over 90 is inaudible...the higher you get the better tell tale sign of better internal fet/transistors and better control of the speaker/cone movement.

But.. emerson.. just like optimus from Radioshack...
If you're getting the amp for under $50 go for it... otherwise there are many more... with brand recognition

Good points L_fty. I was going thru some info that I've collected over the past year and found a review of Emerson's PA-2150 amp. This amp is rated at 150W X 2. The review was done by carsound.com (link doesn't work anymore).

The highlights:
Amp produced 129WX2 into 4 ohms, 163WX2 into 2 ohms, and 404W bridged into a 4 ohm reactive load. All these measurements were taken @14.0V, not 14.4V.
The amp's A-weighted noise floor was 103 db below amps full output. Crosstalk was -50 db across midrange frequencies. Efficiency at 1/3 maximum power was 30%. Damping factor at 100 hz, 2 ohms was 69 (guess damping factor varies with freq.)

Don't understand the following:
Freq response (4 ohm ihf load 20hz-20khz): +0db, -0.18db
L/R channel error max deviation 20hz-20khz: 0.57db
Phase response: +13.7 degrees, -14.7 degrees

Also, the reviewer gave the amp props for being stable and well-behaved during testing. The reviewer didn't discuss subjective concepts like sq though.

I suspect that the internals for the 2150 and the 4100 are very similar. Extrapolating on the above ratings, the 4100 may put out around 86 W into 4 ohms (86% of rated power). Not too shabby if none of the other specs sound out of whack. L_fty?? Oh, and what about the efficiency spec?

Maybe if I can get it cheap enuf I'll pull the badge off and tell people it's a vintage Carver amp

LOL... al I can say.. is dont get into the specs too much... if you have seen the specs of the older ... hmm even the newer A/D/S amplifiers... with their low damping factors.. and low S/N ratios... you'd be turned off by them... but SQ wise.. when they are actually heard... simply mind-blowing performance that has to be heard.

Back to your emerson..... efficiency.. the lower the number the more heat generated by the amp... which will be no problem if it is well ventilated... as you raise gains you increase headroom by decreasing efficiency, increasing amp draw and generate more heat... which inturn lowers the life of caps, transistors, and fet chips.

So.. specs wise.. it looks as good as a cheaper version of the class D JBL amps.. or the lanzar vibe of new...

soundstream ref, rubicon, lanzar optidrive, A/D/S, audio art, PPI art, older Zapco... all of these can be found at low prices because of age.. but have supremely hih quality internal build and components.... think about it this way.. why spend a little for possible crap when you can spend a little more and get a confidence in quality
