Custom Box

For you guys that built custom boxes, what kind of material do you use for the walls? I'd like to build something, but i dont really know where to start with it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

yep I used 3/4MDF, liquid nails glue.. and a few mdf brace to customize the volume as well as provide torsional rigidity. Wood glue or silicone sealant all of the inner seams. Lots of external sanding!!!!!!!!! and depending on the finish or if your lazy like me.. just carpet that bish with the use of 3M #77 spray adhesive..

g'luck!

13ply baltic birch(or 7 if you're a cheapass like me) or 3/4" mdf. I use elmers pro bond because it it "moves" and fills in gaps and deficiencies in the wood, clamping is a must with pro bond though, it likes to expand a bit. I always brace as well.

This was one of my builds, I was in the middle of moving the clamps around and figured I'd take a pic. This is Grade A 7 ply baltic birch. I used a 3/4" grade A MDF baffle. Sounded pretty sweet for L7s

How do you like the L7's with a sealed box? I have 1 12" L7 in a bandpass, but i feel like my trunk lid is rattling louder than the bass!

I'm thinking of building a sealed box for 2 12" L7's, i'm hoping to make it look just like yours, but without the port!

they were really happy in a sealed box, just make it a tad on the large side(1.5-2.0ft^3 for a 12" L5/L7) and it would sound sweet as hell. I'm a bass fiend, so I really like the huge ported box I have right now, if it would stop destroying my car it would be even better lol. I do miss the sealed boxes though, If I had enough room I'd have a pair of ported and a pair of sealed and switch between them. For LISTENING to music you can't beat a large sealed box, but for downright MEAN bass, a big vented box is very happy.
