Thumbs down Bye Bye to Window Tint

Got another ticket Saturday night for my "not-so-dark" window tint. The legal limit here is 50% front and anything rear. I have 35% front and 20% rear. All in all, two warnings and three tickets, each at $95.

I'm sick of being pulled over, so I'm getting rid of the window tint. I'm thinking about doing 50% front and 35% rear, but would this look stupid? I kinda wanna have some tint, just so the car doesn't get so hot in the summertime, and I was also planning on getting a Pioneer AVIC soon and don't want that stolen.

What do you guys think I should do? and would it cost more to have them redo it than to just take it off? The popo said I could try a hair dryer and a blade, but I'm thinking (a) that would take forever and (b) wouldn't that scratch the windows?

I know, and neither is 35%, which I have, yet I get pulled over all the time now for it. I live in an area of very low crime (cops just sit around for the most part to get rolling a stop sign or tint or headlight out), however we have awful drivers. We also have the second-most tickets given out each year of any city in the US, or we did at one point. Anyway, yeah I know 50% is like nothing... that's why I did 35% to start out with, but I can't handle getting pulled over every 2 months, and the cops get meaner every time. He was like "You must be hiding a dead ex girlfriend or something..."

I have zero points on my license, and I have always been nice to cops, but sometimes they think they're funny when they're not. haha

I still think I want 50% tint, just so I can have something and have it look a little dark at night so no one will steal my new sound system whenever I get it put in.

would 35% rear look way way darker than 50% front or would it look alright? I definitely do not want to leave the rear at 20%, because that would look so stupid.

or move...ya just kidding. Might as well just drive with what little tint you can have. Luckily in georgia it seems to me that no one really cares legal here is 35% but i drive with 20...which to say i think is not really that dark either. When the front windshield is facing the sun you can still kinda see into the car.

using a razor wont scratch the windows. the easiest way is with steam gun, just shoot some steam at a corner and use the razor to peel it. if you do it, be careful not to damage your defrosters lol

Lucky!! I'm moving. jk Yeah Ohio is renowned for tickets being handed out each year. My town's police department just got big GMC SUVs and these crazy fast Dodge Chargers too. lol

Ah, I don't think I can do that myself. I definitely do not wanna scratch up the windows or defrosters. I always use them in the winter. Would a tint place be able to redo tint or do they just apply it?

if all they can do is put tint, then find some other place. lol

my shop remove my tint for free, then come back again to retint for like $40. CHP and the shop are like half a mile away.

Go with a ceramic tint. You can get higher heat rejection with less darkness.

taking it off is easy. Park it outside and spary windex with Amonia D on to the tint. Cover it up with a trash back so that it doesn't evaporates. Let it bake for 20 min in the hot sun. and then you can pull it off in 1 piece. Just pull off the front, and do 50%. I had 50% front and 20% rear on my old accord. 50% almost looks clear.

Just fishbowl it... I recently got 5% tint all around and I live in Jersey lol I haven't gotten pulled over yet (knock on wood) but I will probably remove it all next year. Just cause I don't want to dodge cops all the time.

Full interior and cage coming soon...

ceramic tint gets baked on it...pretty cool. most places know the tints will get taken off due to tickets and will offer the service for some price.

you could also just buy a spare set of untinted windows and swap it back and forth whenever you get a ticket jk jk

I don't know how you Cali guys can do no tint. No tint here in TX is death...even with not-black interior. My sister's Corolla has tan cloth interior and no tint and that thing is like an oven in the summer.

Ga's law is 32% all my cars are at 20% I have never had any problems with it but once my mom was pulled over on a rainy day where the tint seems to be darker and the cop told her it was 15.9% She said it wasnt her car, rather mine, and let her go w/o a ticket....i never got the tint replaced

I would like to note that if I were ever to get pulled over (rain or no rain) I would make sure to roll down ALL my windows. the main think behind tint laws is for the safety of the officers and by rolling all your windows down your are helping them with their safety and maybe helping yourself out of a ticket.

Thanks for all the advice... I still think I'm gonna take it into a shop though and just have them redo the tint for me.

It would be a lot cheaper if I could just have them redo the front two windows, but do you guys think that 50% front and 20% rear would look ok?

I really have to have tint, because where I work is a bad area, and two people's cars have gotten stolen from the back parking lot, and last thing I want is someone looking into my car and seeing something they want.

Plus it gets to 100 degrees here in the summer, and I noticed my car was so much cooler this year.

So bottom line is, will 50% front and 20% rear look bad, or should I do 50% front and 35% rear, or all around 50%? I just think 50/20 might look goofy. Knightryder, do you have any pics of your car from the side?

I hope law enforcement would do some self-policing. Undercover cars are just as illegal as civilian. We do not see them being issued tickets. The law does not work one way; hypocrasy is the crime the police should be charged with...do not get me started on running traffic lights (while red). Best of luck with the decision. I would take pictures of law enforcement vehicles and make citizen complaints and arrests for their tint violations.

that's bogus!! I was looking at the fines today, and it's a $160 ticket here for having front bumper too low or muffler too loud or illegal HID. Good thing Magnaflow is known for its quietness though and my HID is 5000k Philips 85122CX in TSX retrofits, so it doesn't look illegal, but I could get pulled over for my Stage I car even. :/ I've been issued a warning for that before, but he said, "you're low, but not as low as some cars I see, so I wouldn't worry about it." haha

Pshh I got a ticket for 260 for playing my music too loud! I hope my tint is ok. I'm going to have it redone, and I'm not sure what % to get.
