Accord coupe CG2 dash swap?

Has anyone done a dash swap on the accord? Asking as been helping out a friend with a J32 swap and when taking the CL-s apart i noticed that most of the parts interchange with the CG2. As my friend was not going to use the dash i got it for myself.

Ill start the swap at the end of the month after i get more parts for the dash but was thinking that maybe someone here has done it before ?

The dash looks much nicer then the CG2 has:

I think i need the centerconsole metall brackets to to attach the navi screen.

Well what can I say..... i need the tube frame that is under the dash from the acura as the side is a bit different, not much that a cutter can not handle but i want it to be stock

So far it seems to be plug and play.

Started with

Dash out:

Had to remove the center console frame as the acura has a different one...but all the bolts alligne

First test fit:

If lucky will have it swapped by the end of the week. So far i am likeing the new dash

to my knowledge, no one has tried it on this site.

1 big hurdle might be the gauge cluster...but maybe some re-pinning would make it work.

I got my eye on another cluster but no matter what i use i will have to repin the plugs.

I will have to repin the AC,defog and headlight washers anyway so thats no problem

First, I thought this would be difficult to fit, but it seems like you're going to have a very nice swap. Can't wait to see the completion!

Will see about the GPS as the previous owner of the car had unloaded a 6kg dry extinguisher under the dash after an accident. The radio did not power on at first so i had to clean the circuitboards and solder some pins over but its alive. Last time i tested the GPS display i got no picture but i might be able to resurect it after i take it apart. Might also think of swaping the unit out for a newer one. Will see as at the moment i just want to get the interior back together.

I think im skiping the CL-s cluster as i got my eye on a TL 2004-2008 cluster and cover fro about 100USD Will need a bit more work but as the dash swap is going to be too easy i might as well take up the challange.

Will try to swap the door panels to as all the parts i have swaped so far a all plug-n-play.... a bit creepy but as the CG2 is a US car it might be more of a ACURA then other hondas

So i took the dash out again and swapped the subframe too. You can use the stock frame but then you need to cut the sides so the dash will fit in. Some parts on the other side will get in the way if you do not....also found a problem after i had refitted the subframe....i need the passanger airbag from the CL-s to as the mounting points are way off. Lucky for me the airbag is for grabs to

Here is a picture of the drivers side of the subframe:

Right is CL and left is CG2. Other then the sides and airbag mount it is the same.

Now the dash. I have found so far that one part will not work. The vent that goes from the center to the driver side is to small and will get in the way of the airflow valve or how ever you call it.
Here is a picture:

Left is accord and right is CL-s you can cut it wider but it will not help much. What i did was i cut the bottom part of the accord and just used a heatgun to melt CL over the accord one. If to lazy can just mcgyver it .

Was getting late so did not have much time to get it all in but i got the wiring on the dash and just have to see how the plug are and then can but it all in and screw it down

Well seems to be going good Now need to connect the last plugs and screw some relays in place and can start with the re-pining of the radio and cluster plugs.

I did run into a small problem that was easy to fix. The sides of the dash are made a bit different and will need a small cut as (not needed if you get the front windshield side cover/panel ( Sry english is not my mane language so have no idea what the name of the part is)

You can see from the picture what i mean the accord side is much lower and will get in the way

To bad the dash was not from a 6 speed CL-s as i will have to mode the armrest to work with the e-brake: My idea is to use the panel from the accord so it looks like on the accord

Damn I need to get a gearbox for the NSX engine so i can rip the A/T shifter out ....and but a manual shifter in there.
But for the time i will have to live with it.

Ihhh ugly shifter

Pros: The center console marble finish looks really nice

Cons: Harder to work with

One of the big reasons I love the honda accord dash is that it's so damn easy to work with. I can take off two screws and gain access to everything in the center dash. This might not seem like a big deal, but I am constantly tinkering with my iphone/LCD install so its a big plus.

That said, very impressive swap you have there !

Still no picture on the display but radio turns on (missing code however) and the climate control work....sort of I need to go over the wires one more time as it works but does not change mode when i press front windshield button. Also how in the hell can i control the airflow ??? There is no button for that ...the CL has only got rear defog, windshield , temp up and down, inner flow, off and auto. The rest is via the display ?.

Sad part is that the only accord coupe 2000 manual i got is in spanish. I got a english CL-s and TL manual that covers the dash but now need to decode the wires on the accord But i am getting there. Will continue tomorrow.

Well now i have hit a problem actualy two. One i might be able to resolve. Am missing the GPS unit and the dispaly will not turn on... Might get the display on a nother way but will have to do some homework.

The bad problem is the radio code. Talked to a local honda dealer as they do no sell acuras here and all acuras that are sold are import.
They said that they will not give me the code for the radio even if i have the vin, the serial and the radios U and L code. They need me to take the original car and radio into the service and then they will get the code for me The tech just laughed and say good luck with my new paperweight
Did register on the acura page but they need a phone number and the zip code where the card was sold in the states..... no idea on that.

Been on the phone and finally found a person at local honda dealer who looked the code up for me so now i have a working radio bad part however is that i took the display apart and the LCD has gotten a blow to one of the sides and well the LCD is cracked.
Might try to replace the LCD as i got a 7 ins screen for a LCD portable DVD player but no idea if the screen will work on with the CL-s one.
Luckly there are a few displays sale on ebay to but if i am lucky might score a 2004 accord navi display. will see in a week or so.

Did most of the cluster wiring today so just a few more wires and can test the CL-s cluster to

That display is nothing special, as it's rather outdated. I would really consider just putting a different type of display in there. Some people have just popped in a 7" tablet into it instead.

The dry extinguisher use in the CL-s had done more damage then i had antisipated. The AC control panel gives out 2 errors and bouth are "Shot in circuit". Not a problem to fix but it will take time to get working. The cluster is almost done. It also needed soldering and repair. Still need to get the temp gauge to work correct (at the moment stays at 0 for a while and then jumps to H, is not getting the counter signal to balance the needle), Engine light does not turn on and SRS does not work correct (no side airback light). Other then these problem it works so i can use it untill i get the upgrade.
If i get the 04-08 TL cluster i will have to solve the "many indicators and one wire " problem as the newer models use one wire and impulses to indicate something like temp, seatbelt ect. on the cluster.

Am waiting for the new screen for the GPS display (Should have that in a week or two. LOL and also am starting to thing about adding a raspberry IP to the screen so ill have a computer in the car.

Back to the swap. You will not be able to use the door panels They do not fit. I will have some picture in a few days but the window glas on the CL is shorter then on the accord and the panel itself is longer then on the accord. Hard to describe but the if you even try to fit it you will have problems getting the door to close. Also you would have a 3-4 cm gap next to the side mirror.

The back panels would even work but you will need the panel that holds the rear speakers and brakelight (am missing that panel ). Might use some parts of off the door panes as they cane be swaped over. Will have more picture by the end of the week.

Here are some pictures of what i have had time to do:
If ou have a hand E-brake then this is one problem you will have to solve (if you dont the the dash from a 6 speed manual CL-s).

I will use the cup holder and ebrake panel from the accord and work that into the CL-s panel. If you have the foot ebrake then this will not need to be done.

Also added one extra that i got off a nother car. Honda and acura do not add this for some reason. A panel to dampen nois + make the underside of the dash look nice.

No wires, not vent part showing

Not much.

Waiting for the new screen for the navi (should get it in a few days as its in customs at the moment). Radio still need a few LED-s and can but it back. Also have to find the fault in the AC control as it does not change vent mode. Self diagnos gives "circuit short"

e-brake mod ( the black is actualy part of the acuras damaged rear pumper) Using a heatgun to form and bond it.

I also added a cup holder under it but have got no image.

Hope to have a better update by the end of the week.

As the acura radio had a damaged chip or board (was not able to solve the problem). I went with 2din navi/ multimedia system. Also did a SMD led conversion on the cluster as the 04 tl cluster swap is on hold until i cant get the new engine rebuilt and swaped.

Did run into a small problem with the climat control. Seems that the CL has more modes then the accord and also the motor has more movment options....thats why i was getting a circuit error too. I might build the accord climat control into the dash as i want more option on how to set the climat and what vents it will blow out of but if i mange to get the climat control working as i want it to i will keep it. Will get some finished pictures of the dash next week when i get the wiring done for the 2din navi and the center console back together.

Cluster. Still needs 2 SMD-s for the needles

If i manage to solve the climat control + get the display to show C insted of F i will do a SMD led conversion on that to.

And the navi in

So far i am realy happy with the dash. Feels so much better then the accord one.

Edit: A nother thing about the cluster. I do not know it the CG2-s in the US are full OBD 2 or partly as in the US. If the engine coolent temp (ECT) runs to the ecu on your accord then no modifications are not needed but of the ECT is connected to the cluter then you will have to but the signal line on the clusters circuitboard and swap it ...or solder the resistors form your old cluter to the motor that moves the needle. If you do not do this then the temp sensor will just say at the bottom for a few min and then just jump to H and stay there. This is because the ECU sends an impulse to the cluster and that converts it to the desired voltage.Just wiring the ECT to the pin will make it think the eingine is overheating.
