what impedance amp to use?

i was looking at alpine type r's on ebay and in it says the type r uses dual 4 ohm voice coils. does this mean i have to use a 4ohm amp or is it unrelated?

no you can wire it down to 2ohms also for more power, all amps will be able to do 4ohms

alright, im getting kinda confused now. im getting a Audiobahn AW120T 12" sub and it runs at 4ohms and runs at 500 rms. originally i was going to use a power acoustik OV2-820 which runs at 460 rms mono, but i think that would be @ 2ohms. can i still go with that setup?

almost every car amp is rated at 4 ohms. the better ones will be able to handle 2,1, or less...

yeah most home stereos SPEAKERS are 8 ohm, and car speakers are 4 ohm. A amplifier for your car will be 4 ohn if you hook it up normally, if you bridge it it will still be @ 4 ohm IF you run it to a single 4 ohm speaker, if you run it in parallel (pos/neg to 1 speaker, then jump pos/neg to the 2nd speaker) to 2 4 ohm speakers it will create a 2 ohm load for the amp, but your speakers are still 4ohm speakers.

got it?
