cutting down shifter

My freind recently cut down the shifter on his automatic on his mazda 6. He cut it down past the threads drilled a hole in the post and put a manual shift knob on it. Now he doesn't need to push a button to shift in to any gear. Can we do this on our automatics he gave me a free momo shift knob i'm wanting to see if this is possible.

Yes, its possible. This was first discuss back in '99 or '00 lol. Man that's a long time ago. In any case, yes it can be done and I have seen it done personally. Just have to be careful not to cut too short. And you actually CANNOT use a manual shifter because on the auto, you still need something to press down to switch from P R N D4 D3 etc. They make knobs that do look like manuals that you press the knob down to shift.
