What Is Offset, & What Should Be Good For Me?

OK... Sorry to be ignorant, but my two main things I don't know about is systems, rims and tires.

Can you please help me and tell me what is offset?

Also what is BEST for 18" 7.5 Konig Imagine's Opal wrapped in 225/40or45/18???

Also I DONT WANT RUBBING, I have a SEDAN, and later plan to get 2 12"s and I've seen where people use the wrong offset and they rub.

I really want to make my rims and tires the BEST first so I don't have to spend more money on making mistakes.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Do a search on OFFSEt and you should find plenty of explanation on this subject. BTW you need +45 or higher offset for that setup.
