Sanding it down seems kinda tough. (and I've never heard of it being done)

Just have a tint shop paint it.

do not sand these so called "dot matrix" down, because these are integrated to help with the de-fog process. Anyone who listens to avengers advice, please do so at your own risk.

I'm thinking of getting the tints done too, so I went to this place that does tinting for local Lexus dealers. I asked him about the dot matrix problem, and...

Basically, he said that he will first tint the entire rear windshield up to where the dot matrix begins. Then he's gonna take small strips at a time and cover the dot matrix area little by little, so there will be no bubbles.

Sounds like a good method, dunno how it's gonna turn out (those little strips at the top will be noticeable? will there be bubbles regardless?). The price, as I was told, is going to be $140~$170 for all 5 windows with titanium film.

I'll talk to another tinting place and ask what they do against dot matrix. This one quoted $200 tho...

Hey guys, I've seen Jenna's windows and they look REALLY good!

the painting method is by far the best...

You should be able to paint it any color you want, even clear...

Ummmmm...... How is vinyl any different from tint? the vinyl will pull away from the glass easier than tint...

just a thought...

Most of the vinyl I've delt with, have not been as 'tacky' as tint...
Tint is also MUCH thinner, and is easier to force down around the dots...

But like I mentioned earlier, mask the **** off, and paint it with a brush. It is not too hard... then you can just take it and have it tinted normal and not pay extra.

to each his own

i had my tint done professionally, and they sanded the dot matrix.
when they sanded the dot matrix they didnt sand it away, they only sanded it so that it was rougher so that the tint would stick to it. it looks great. and yes my rear defogger still works.

Or you could tint up to the matrix then spray tint the matrix itself.

i got my estimate from a tint place and there going to charge me $300 and that includes the front windshield. i asked about the dot matrix and they said that there going to sand it down and put a speical soultion down to help the tint stick. they a well known shop around michigan area so i guess sanding down the dot matrix is ok.

Which tint shop painted yours? Do you have the name of the place, or the address? And how much did they charge? I got my tints done at place called Best Tint (I think) on Beach Blvd.. and my dot matrix is pretty horrible.. I wanna get it painted then!

i just dropped my coupe off at the tint shop. $100 for the whole thing. They're going to tint the whole back window. If the dot matrix looks like ish they said they will remove that strip and order a strip of vinal (any color) over that part. Hopefully the ish looks goodl.

btw on a graphite pearl what color vinal would you go with? black? Or should i try and get cute?? lol

Hey guys, I got tint and I couldn't stand the bubbles with the "dot matrix" so I had them put black vinyl on the outside of the window like some people put banners on the front. It turned out great and blends right in.

The dot matrix is everywhere, it's all around us, here even in this room. You can see it out your window, or on your television. You feel it when you go to work, or go to church or pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.

I went to Classic Tint in Orange (off of Tustin Ave) I paid 160.00 for all five windows including the painting. (limo tint X5).

Denali,

I'm doing some comparison between tint shops right now; can you tell me what brand/type of tint you have? Right now I got a place in Laguna Hills that'll use Formula 1 metal for $200 (5 sides), and a place in Sherman Oaks that'll use Llumar titanium plus supposedly take care of dot matrix by tinting, not painting/vinyl, for $150 (also 5 sides).

Thx!

Aye! $160 is a lot of money. The place I went to charged me $120 or something.. and I thought even that was a robo, considering there's a place on the corner of Valley View and Orangethorpe that did titanium tints for my friend for $90.

Im happy with my tint, except for the back window. I wonder how much they'd charge to just re-do the back, as well as paint the matrix. Then again, it might be hard to match, since the place I went to didnt go by ___% tint.. they just had 4 different tints (light, medium, dark, darkest) something like that. And I just got the medium all over.

out of curiosity, what is with this dot matrix deal?? Is it only for coupes??

I had my car tinted 35% all the way around, and no problems at all. WHen I look att the rear windshield, i can't really tell that the tint went over the defrosters, unless i look at it REALLY REALLY hard.
