Aftermarket Deck Install Q's

Putting in an Alpine 9815 deck today, had a couple questions for the crew.

1) Where did you mount the backstrap from the deck to the car at? IE Where did you screw it into?

2) Where are people mounting the fuse holder for an amp in the engine bay at?

3) Where is the best place to pass the power wire through for an amp install, I thought I saw a picture of a grommet somewhere that was good, but I can no longer find the link to info on that..

Pics would be great-- Thanks!

the best place to run the amp wire through the engine bay is at the firewall grommet below the brake fluid reservoir. If you need a pic just holler.

This is how I got it through the firewall:

This is wire I put my remote bass control:

How I got it to the trunk after running it under the door sills:
it is going through the furthest most right side of the pic where the seat meets the black metal of the car.

And this is where it comes out from:

Anymore help just holler

Sweet ya that helps a lot. I am also having a dilemma right now, my Alpine deck's harness says the power wire needs to be hooked up directly to the fuse box or to the battery because it has high current draw, and says specifically don't hook it up behind the dash (I'm suposing it means dont use the factory harness power hookup).

So. I need to find a location potentially at the fusebox on the left of the car or somewhere else that I can get a GOOD 12v line thats constant.. any ideas??

Abe,

I will be doing a similar install on my 2001 coupe next weekend (I hope) . Do you still have the pics that you posted? I would really appreciate it if you wouldn't mind reposting them. I'll take pictures of my install and post with details as soon as I finish.

Thanks

Hopefully tomorrow Ill get a chance to take pics of my install........I think I had my power wire going thru the same grommet. I actually popped the grommet out of the firewall, cut the middle part out, fed the wire thru it and then pushed it back into the firewall. Looks stock, except for the fact that its a bright red 4ga wire

Anyway, I will be installing an Alpine 9813 (about the same as the 9815) this weekend as well, and planned on using the same grommet to feed the wire thru (Im pretty sure I can manage to get a rather small 10ga wire thru it). What I havent found out, however, is if its possible to just run directly to the fuse box in the case that you arent going to use the head units internal amp (it can be switched off, and Im guessing the rest of the HU doesnt take much juice). But I feel more comfortable wiring it that way anyway, just to be sure.

Ill try to get pics up sometime tomorrow evening.

Ya Chris its very doable to get a 10ga wire + the 4ga.. I ran my 4ga for my amp and a 10 for my deck no prob.
