thanx...
yeah...i know the alternator would definitely help...
as u can see...i got a very mild system...with slight dimming
so i was kinda looking for some alternative...
other than spending big $$$...
i'd like to try all i could to eliminate
the dimming before i end up buying new alt.
so upgrding the ground wire is not gonna do any good then??

Upgrading your three magic wires will not help you in this situation. Changing the gauge of the wire will decrease resistance of the current, but it will not increase the amount of current... it DOES give you the potential for running more current (via higher output alt..etc) But before you spend big money on a higher output alternator. I'd say get a 1/2farad cap installed, the slight dimming on bass peaks will be quelled.

If you have major dimming, then you'll haveto invest in a good quality alt. You will only need to upgrade your battery if you want to play your system with the car not running.

Dimming occurs when amp draw exceeds the output of your alternator and rest of the power is being drawn from the battery(hence the dimming--electrical supply to rest of car has been comrimised as a result).

I'm usually against caps because IMO they do little to help with major dimming...and ppl swear by them LOL... but in your case spend that extra $75-100 and get one.

what size power wire are you running to the amp? how long? how long is your ground wire? fuse rating?

i see that your amp does 350 watts.. you should have no problems with the lights dimming. the stock alternator should handle it just fine.

i say go get a 4gauge wiring kit if you dont have it already.. make the power and ground wires as short as possible. get a fuse about 40amp and you'll be fine.

thanks guys...
i just upgraded all the underhood wires to 4 guage...
and i think i used 8 gueage wiring kit for the amp...but...
if i turn on the signal lights at the stop, only the light behind the little clock dims no matter my system's on or off...not my head light, not the whole dash, no nothing....just the damn clock...above the head unit...
is dat normal for our car???
other than dat...seems like the dimming has been
minimized by just upgrading the ground wires...
and i also try to keep the volume low when ma car's not running...
thanks...

daniel

the cap definately helps.. i used to have 3 in my car... now just 2. but i installed my cap(s) at the same time as eveything else and no headlight dimming or anything. your headlights should really only dim when you hit a real deep bass note or sumptin.. when your subs are requiring a lot of power to make that deep bass. but otherwise i just got a red optima i can finally run my car stereo longer than about 10 minutes. without having my battery go dead. i got stock alternator still a cap runs about 75 dollars or so.. 100+ for one w/ a digital volt meter.
