gas guage malfunction

My gas guage reads low all the time when i fill up instead of shooting up to the top quickly it goes real slow over a few minutes. Most of the time it just reads just over half nomatter how much gas i have and the low fuel light is on all the time. What could the problem be here?

it's a regular recall on the car. it's your fuel sensor that has collected too much sulfur deposits. just take it to the dealer and they'll replace it for free.

this happened to two of three of my family's av6s...

Does it matter how many miles you have on your car for the recall? I have a 99 with about 53k and my low-gas warning light doesn't come on anymore.

I have had trouble with mine since the beginning .

Took my car in three times before, one they said it was nothing. Second time and they replaced the fuel sending line but didn't fix it. Third time they replaced the fuel sensor but messed it up and now it says a 1/4 tank full when on empty. Ended up with my car sitting in the driveway dead with 265 miles on the tank and it still saying a quarter tank full.

I am having it fixed again tomorrow and this time they better do it right this time .

Also, if you have installed indiglo gauges make sure they are pushed and taped down properly around the needles, because if they arent it can stick.

Had that problem within the first year. It was the fuel level sender like Jon said. Mine used not go to full when I filled up.
I didn't hear of a recall on it, but had done under warranty. No problems since (knock on wood).

upper right corner, item #16

remove floor linens in trunk and you will see unpainted metal access cover toward back seat, that's it.
