What kind of Audio Head Unit U got running?

As much as i'm lovin' my honda, I need some better sounds.

I've got the EX am/fm/cd double-DIN player in my car right now and am looking to upgrade to aftermarket.

However, I also really like my steering wheel controls and i've been told time and again i won't be able to preserve those if i switch my head unit.

Is this all bologna or is it a real pain in the arse if do-able at all...?

Lookin' for insight, chime in fellas.

It can be done. There's a few things out there, and I know Cruthfield has it that will allow you to use your factory steering wheel controls with an aftermarket radio as long as it has a remote for the radio.

As a matter of fact a member on AV6 did it once. I'm sure someone will speak up about it that has done it before. So ....

Kenwood DPX-5010 tape/cd/changer with a 10 disc regular changer, AND a 10 disc cd/mp3 changer

To keep your steering wheel controls just get a PAC SWI-X from crutchfield or anywhere else you can find it. Works with any deck that has a remote control. You install the eye for the swi-x so it can see the eye on the deck(mine is on the front of the center armrest), then you attach the steering wheel wire to the wire on the swi-x, then you press a button on the brain of the swi-x to get it into the learn routine, press a steering button, aim your remote at the eye, then do the next button, so on and so fourth. Works fantastic.

what do u guys do for the empty bottom din on the ex models when u get a new single din headunit?

just buy a dash kit for $20 with the brackets and cubbyhole built in or will the lx cubby hole work well in there by itself?

damn dude you got a good ass deal i got it at $330 and after the warranty, taxes it comes out to $400. The shop installed mine for free except they didnt give me the flip down dash cover on the bottom its just a cubby hole. You'll like the deck though.

lost my digital camera on my last trip to thailand, so can't take a picture, it's just a little tiny IR transceiver about 1/8" diameter. I have it so when you have the armrest down you can't see it unless you get down and look under it.

this is what the whole thing looks like, the transceiver is the little tiny thing on the lower left. I made just a big enough hole so i could barely fit in the hole, made it pretty much flush, then put a tiny dab of superglue on the back side to hold in it. The unit itself is like 3"s long. the other black thing on the upper right is just a fuse.

here's the install instructions for it http://www.virtualoutlook.net/Products/swixinstr.pdf

we'll see how far i go, i REALLY want a new head unit, but it's cheaper to upgrade speakers for now

01-02 EX radio

It is not supposed to be in a 99 Accord so in theory it is a something of an aftermarket HU .

Thats what I have right now... hehe I like it a lot.. esp. with new LEDs. But Im just browsin around to see whats out there for our cars.

I guess another thing I like about it is that it takes up the whole space.. as opposed to practically any aftermarket head unit, which leaves that gap in the lower half.

2002HondaAckord, yea, I like the one you have.. if I decide to get one some time this year, (hopefully if I have some money) Im trying to decide between that one, the Panasonic HX2083, or one of the Pioneers (with the OEL displays). I like how the alpine 7893 looks.. except that it doesnt play MP3s.

Cubby Hole?

Is the dash kit going to include a cubby hole or just a solid plate covering the lower opening?

That would be an awesome place to store cd's out of the case for easy access and i sure as hell don't want it to go to waste...
