Anyone have Focal components?

Namely Focal 136W's (utopia's)
i have the kickpanels from q-logic (q-forms)
i am still fiberglassing the back of them, since they are open-backed and the mids (5.25's) need to be enclosed with a port
they sound like ass when exposed.....

anyone have any experience with these????? (speakers)

I've heard the eutopia's & polykevlars. A very in your face speaker system with a tweet that needs to be slightly eq'd. But that can be helped with the install and aiming.

The TN51 tweet vs TN45 tweet has been a debate over at some caraudio forums... I noticed that sounded quite similar until cranked up in volume.. the TN51 felt more controlled with forgiveness to sounds that tend to have simbilance in lesser quality tweets.

Midbass wise out of these speakers didnt really impress when compared to the Rainbow Professionals I auditioned a few hours later.

All in all a quality speaker set with good sound quality.
These speakers sound generically good with not too much personality/character in them as say a A/D/S speaker set... with it's delightful dark sounding tweet

Cant really go wrong going with focal, rainbow, a/d/s, dynaudio, scans, seas.. slight nuance differences determine what a buyer will choose... because all of the upper brands sound generally good. Subjective shopping sucks.. too many decisions not enough money

L_fty- i had hoped u responded and thanx
but, i need somethin answered: how much do they need to be enclosed? i got em in the kicks and i AM enclosing them, but the enclosure is small. the speakers hit the back of the carpet in the corner...... i dont know. i guess noone has these in kix and have m problem with the huge ass magnet causing the kix to not be flush with the carpet

The speakers dont need alot of space when sealed .1 - .4cu ft space... I'm assuming you're building a pod like enclosure for these guys? The midbass is going to be picky on how well the job is done

I'd recommend making some wooden spacers to lift up the speakers' magnet away from the carpet and offer some more air space in the enclosure. Maybe some 1/4inch or 1/2 inch mdf might be a worthy investment. Just make a simple ring and screw it beneath the speaker basket.

I've only heard the focal drivers in stock location/infinite baffle...let us know how they sound once finished!! I'm very curious!! good luck!

The Focal's are extremely nice. I am actually thinking about going with the new Polyglass line because I don't want the cost associated with the Utopia's or Polykevlar's.

The Polykevlar's sound awesome in my opinion even in an infinite baffle setup. The midbass performance was extremely good but I found the tweeters to be a little on the bright side. I have never heard the Rainbow's so they may have better midrange.

with some modification yes. I had the Rainbow Prof Vand in my front doors. The woofers are a tad greater than 3 inches in depth. Used some spacers and shaved my inner skin of my door panel(the inside grill area) The woofers fit great and look stock once the panel was put back on.
