Help when installing aftermarket stereo

You know how all the wires come into the stock headunit from the harness, if I want to connect them to an aftermarket headunit, do I have to cut each wire individually? Or is there an easier way?

Also, if I ever want to go back to stock, will I have to buy another one of those connectors or how would I do it?

Any how-to's with pictures out there? Thanks for any help

You need to get a wiring harness, which are car-specific. They are not expensive, shouldn't be more than $10. Any auto store would have them, such as Pep Boys or Strauss Auto. Also, stores that sell new head units would carry wiring harnesses as well. What happens is the wiring harness plugs into the harness that used to plug into the stock head unit. Then, the other side of the wiring harness has all the wires you need to connect seperated for you. That makes switching back to the stock head unit as easy as unplugging the aftermarket wiring harness and plugging in the stock head unit. Here is what a wiring harness for a 99 Accord (like yours) would look like:

Well, now I need some help. I just finished the install of my new Kenwood head unit (KDC-MPV6022) and the only way the unit will get power is if the yellow (power) and red (ignition) wires are touching. The only problem with this is that whenever I turn the car's ignition off, all my custom settings on the head unit reset to factory default, and the dashboard clock resets as well (same wiring loop I guess).

I'm figuring something is not right with the wiring, but I've tried all I know. When I simply have red from the wiring harness connected to red from the unit and yellow from the harness connected to yellow from the unit, there is no power to the head unit. the two red ends and two yellow ends need to all be touching in order for me to get power. the manual says this should only be necessary if the car doesn't have an "ACC" position, which the Honda Accord does, so I'm kinda lost right now.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

thanks so much , I got the stock HU out already, I just need to go look for the harness tomorrow and if I can't find one, I guess I'll buy the one from sounddomain.com

The reason why you're losing your setting is that it is not getting any power when your car is shut down. Once you have the harness, you should be fine, because there will be a wire to provide power while you're shut down.

I have the harness already, and everything is hooked up as it should be, and it doesnt work. I have to connect the power and the ignition wires together to get power, and that way I lose power when the ignition is turned off.
