2 way radios

Has anyone installed a two way radio in their car?

What kind?
How much?
you know, standard questions...

Ive seen some CB radios for sale in my local truck stop/diner for like $150, but im not sure if that includes the antenna or not, and installation should be pretty easy, just running some wires and hookin direct to the battery with an inline fuse is howd i go

I'd like at least 10-15 miles. Most of the handhelds go up to
5 miles.

FRS Radios: 0.5-2 miles simplex

GMRS Radios: 1-5 miles simplex (FCC license required) <-- I think this is the "5 mile" radio you're referring to.

GMRS Radios on a Repeater: 15-30 miles (FCC license, and local repeater access fee required)

Amateur Radio: 60+ miles on a repeater, depending on repeater location, FCC license required which you actually have to study for, expensive equipment, incredibly geeky image.

NEXTEL: range pretty much unlimited, as long as you're within range of a tower, no license required, need to buy a phone though, and monthly access fees and contracts required

CB: no license, cheap equipment, incredibly large and redneck looking antennas if you want to be able to transmit more than down the street. range can vary anywhere from down the street to 5 miles or so. Legally. I don't think you would want to mess up a pretty AV6 with a ugly-azz redneck looking CB antenna.

Your best option would appear to be NEXTEL.
