tail light tint advice

okay i have a black 99 sedan with blackhoused tyc projectors i was wondering if i should just completely black out the tails or just black out the pink part i already bought 2 cans of the testors spray paint and i researched that is was better to use the dupont clear coat. any opinions?

i like what 99v6sedan did with the red/clears he bought. i think you need to sand down the part that youre gonna spray a little bit too with a very fine grit sand paper. i wanna do pretty much exactly what 99v6sedan did now, and i think the sanding was in his directions.

I hope you havn't done it yet. A year and a half ago I sprayed the pink on my tailights smoke, then within months it started to peel and weather away. Yes I used clear coat. Eventually I used a "bug & tar remover" to get it all off and then went to a tint shop and had the strip smoked via some "3M" tint adhesive. It looks awesome and has held up since June

I did the same thing as sneakyxaccord has done with his, hobby shop rc car spray tint. I also used clearcoat on mine though, and its lasted about a year but now its starting to flake off and it looks horrible

you can always use a product called niteshades on the tails. a few coats and then some time with a buffer and polishing compound and it'll have a nice factory gloss look to it.

i tinted my tails using duponts chromabase candy black in clear coat, i sprayed 1 light layer then 2 heavys after. i think the tails are more shiney than my car. i used a grey scotchbright pad to prep them then taped off the clear part of the lens and tinted only the red. i think i described the steps a little better in my forum.

one side oem one side tinted

before tint

just one question, if i do decide do clear them, should i just to the black tinted part, or the whole lense, to like prevent it from getting under the layer, cuz with the tape itll be like a ridge, but if i cleared the whole light, then it would seel the tint in and i would have less of a chance of it peeling off or something. so should i clear the whole lense if i want to clear it?

So for the longest time i had gone the tint film route for my tails, so i decided to try the spray method. I think it may be a bit to dark but it could be cause im used to it being lighter. pics will explain.

before

after

im still 50/50 on em myself

i think they look good......i think maybe if you did the reflector in the center of the middle piece, it might look a tad better. idk, photshop it and see how you like it.
