what is the difference btwn: 3 10's and 2 12's, ported and sealed box, and subs facing the seats and rear bumper

3 10s should be much tighter than 2 12s, there's less resistance to each piston moving, so it can make much tighter movements, although they should be about the same loudness with the 3 10s being slightly louder depending on the drivers themselves and the whole setup, apples to apples, 2 12"S have about 226 square inches of surface area, 3 10s have 235 square inches. A good sized sealed box has the best dynamic range and cleanest sounding, but isn't for high SPL. Ported and bandpass ported boxes are meant to maximize SPL, most of the time at the sacrifice of sound quality. Although if the tuner really knows his stuff a ported can be pulled off with a relatively flat rolloff(clean smooth sound). Facing you you hear just the subs themselves, facing them towards the back you use your trunk as a psuedo bandpass enclosure, with the trunk acting as the secondary chamber. It makes it louder by resonating through the trunk.

alright thanx illusion... will 3 10's fit in the back seat passthru? and does the subs facing the back seats sound better than facing the rear bumper? im looking for a good sounding system that'll still move air... not a competition SPL setup

you will most def wont to face them to the back. if you want to face them to the front
you will need to seal your trunk. but you will gain about 2-3db

2 Diamond Audio TDX 12s/sealed/plexi/etc.. power from Eclipse DA7232.

facing seats..the seats will absorb most of your sound before you can get it.

facing rear..bass will build up using the trunk as another enclosure before releasing it into the car.

Sealed..More accuracy *usually*

Ported/vented/bandpass..more SPL, very tempermental enclosures when building, must be tuned accurately

wow so many sub brands recommended... hmm let's see thus far:
L7, W6, MTX, Infinity, W7, Diamond.

This guy looks bent on either 2 12s or 3 10s... a tastefully built enclosure with 1 high exursion 10.. perhaps the "A" series by eDesigns or a 1 12inch ported IDQ running about 300-400watts clean power will give you excellent *oomph* without sacrificing too much in the SQ department.

Just dont get 3 or 4 subs thinking it's the cool thing to do...

if i were you i would go with 2 12 facing the rear. JL makes good subs. i have had bad experiences with MTX, IDQ, PPI. in other words i blew them all. i have had my twelve's on the same amp and enclosure for almost 4 years now, and no problems. Just My opinion/experience i am not saying others suck
just what i know

i would do what l_fty suggested..with the money you spent on multiple subs..just get 1 really good one..build the box to recommended specs of the sub..and you should be fine..

sure people can get loud with 2 12s..3 10s..but does it sound good?..thats what it all come down to...sounding good and getting loud..

i wouldnt say the w6 series are competition subs..they are definitely up there though..
