Wind Splitter

What use does an wind splitter have on a car. Is it just for show or does it benifit aero dynamics?

On our cars, I would have to think all splitters and spoilers, etc., are purely aesthetic.

They should help, they will also create drag. Even a cheap lip spoiler helps as it doesn't let as much air get under the car. Cars are similar to wings, the less airflow, the less it wants to lift. If you like the look, do it. But if you don't, the gains will be pretty minimal with normal driving, and our cars don't really "float" anyway.
