Shift Knob Conversion

Alright guys, I have searched for this and all I find is a whole bunch of information and I dont know what is what. So before you tell me to search, I already have. I have a 99 v6 sedan (auto) and I want to do the shift boot/ knob conversion like some of you all have done. All I need to know is what I need to buy and instructions on how to do it. I have found the shift boot on tasauto and the knob on ebay. Both are oem replacements. So anyway, I want to make it look like a manual transmission swap from the interior. What do I need to buy to do this and how much will it cost me? I want the oem stuff if possible. Thanks guys.

No, I havent posted this thread before. I do think I saw a thread about this, but stuff like this starts to get off topic on other things. I just need to know what I need to buy so I can do this. Thanks.

1. get 01-03 tl/cl shift assembly or a 99-02 prelude shift assembly
2. get shift boot
3. get shift knob you want to use. remember the prelude shift has a thicker shaft then the tl shifter. crack open a beer and smoke a cigg.
4. remove entire center console of your car. from arm rest all the way to the pocket under the radio. have another beer. you'll need a cigg after figuring this out for the first time.
5. swap the shifter
6. figure out how you want to mount the boot.
7. put it all back together.
8. crack open another beer you deserve it.

unless your going to mount the gear selector plate thingy i wouldn't worry about spacers. i didn't. can post pics soon. waiting to get the right shift boot

You don't have to get a TL/CL or prelude shift assembly really. All you need is a boot, and knob. You can do it without even taking out your shifter assembly, also you can trim the shifter too. I admit that TL/CL gate looks cooler, and more OEMish... There was I thread that I started, but it was about mounting a manual shift knob on automatic, but it died without anybody trying.

Yea you can get an AT knob like the Razo knob or Momo knob where you push down on the knob to shift gears. I did the TL shifter assembly because I wanted no button whatsoever. It just depends on what your preference is.

Ok guys, I am wanting to know if all I have to do is get an oem boot and an oem knob off a 4cyl accord? If that is the cheapest way to go. I dont mind having to push the knob down to select gear, I just want it to look good. Anyone have an answer, let me know. Thanks.

You can't use OEM manual knob, TL/CL, or Prelude, because they are thread on. You need to get a Razo knob or other knob for automatic that works like a push down button. You can use OEM boot however.

Thanks.
Key word, "Manual."

Just go to ebay and type in automatic shift knobs. Simple as that.

Yes ANY *automatic* shift knob, and any shift boot=OEM honda ones allow for better fitment+greater quality.

Alright, thanks guys. Now I have to find the oem boot and a knob before I can do this. Where would be the best place to get these and how hard is this to do? Thanks.

Ebay usually works for cheaper boots. Or you can do the dealer, but its more expensive.

Shift knob is up to you, depends on what you want. My push down razo stopped working, kept coming unscrewed and I lost a piece one time when it did. So now I'm using a crap advance auto parts one and I'm fine with it.

To tell you the truth, I kind of like my $20 APC aap knob over my $80 "M4d Tyte JDM" Razo Knob.

will this shift knob work with our automatic shifters?

MOMO Gear Shift Knob Automatic Black Leather

Retail Price: $125.00
MOMO Shift Knobs fit most 4/5/6 speed manual shift vehicles with a 16 mm or less shaft diameter. Installs with bushings and set screws included with the knob. Made in Italy.

Heres the Link to the pic:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MOMO-...spagenameZWD1V

And also what shift boot should I use with this knob so it looks and feels good? Will I need to cut or trim my existing shifter to make it shorter?

thanks for the input.

nah, you wont NEED to cut the shifting to make it look nice. As far as the boot, get the Performance one, just make sure you buy the right size boot, there are 2 sizes, one bigger one smaller. Smaller one fits uncut shifter perfectly.
