Tips for Exhaust sound/note.

*Full Cat-back & Axle-back Setups :

Comptech:
Very throaty, tend to be louder than greddy.
You can tell by the sound that its very high quality, little bit on the loud side than deeper.

Ups:
If you want something between deeper & loud, but still manage to drive around without
too much headaches, this exhaust is way to go.
Downs:
I've seen many tend to avoid this exhaust because of the stock looking muffler tips.
I don't really think this is down side, but just a preference.
Also, price might be a little consideration.

Greddy:
Most throaty exhaust in my opinion, you won't hear much inside.
Inside, it is quieter than comptech, and outside also.
Greddy did an EXCELLENT job of keeping the sound level down to its legal limit,
and not to give daily drivers a headache. You'll know the exhaust is there
when you give it a little gas.

Ups:
Excellent sound suppression, great looks, you can get it for cheaper price than comptech.
Downs:
Because of its quiet&throaty combo, some said it even sounds like rice.
Thats what I thought of it in the beginning, but as I heard it more and more,
I realized that its "racy", not ricey. but its on your own.

5Zigen Axle-back rearsection only:
You won't hear anything much until you get tubing.
Once you do, You'll realize the deep, loud exhaust sound coming out from the back.
This particular mufflers are designed for very deep sound, and to keep the sound level
under legal limit. It does a good job, but it was too deep for me.
I wanted something more throaty.

Ups:
Excellent japanese circuit racing exhaust look, deep sound.
Downs:
Price, no full piping offered.

*Stock Tubing Setups :

Custom mufflers with 2.25in/2.5in rear-section piping, stock tubing w/ resonator:
Most quiet setup out of all stock tubing setup, this particular setup will give you
some exhaust note, but not by much. You might even hear "Raspy"ness from the exhaust.
Kinda like 350Z/G35, but more quieter, and not much as throaty as 350Z/G35.
-If you want something quiet that won't disturb your daily driving AT ALL, this setup
will let you know its there. barely though.
--with 2.5in piping, it is obviously louder than 2.25in piping.

Custom mufflers with 2.25in/2.5in rear-section piping, stock tubing w/o resonator:
If you experienced both setup, going from w/ resonator to w/o resonator, you'll definitely
realize the increase in exhaust note.
Definitely more deeper/louder[depending on shapes of your mufflers], cabin noise is much louder
than before. Raspyness will decrease, instead, deeper/louder exhaust note will be realized.
-Note, 2.5inch piping without resonator setup will give you enough low-end exhaust note that
*might give you headache while you are driving. Its not loud as full piping setup,
but you'll know everytime you tap on gas.

Anyone wants to add about exhaust note, lets all do it here, so whoever is looking for
particular sound setup, they can just look in this thread and questions will be answered.

so, if I get CL-S Mufflers, and just remove the PRE MUFFLER... Will I still get that 350Z KINDA sound?

OR do I have to replace the rear Y/V section to 2.25in also?

yea, i saw that too pmantis.

I've already posted several reviews on the parts that no one have done yet.

It seems like review section is on the down side, not many really know about it yet.

So this thread might be a good idea to ask questions for those who have questions about exhaust reviews, and to also let people know that exhaust review section exist.

two in one, whatya think?

just trying to make things better in our lovely v6performance.

back to topic, anyone who needs more details on particular exhaust setup, or have questions about 'em, just post them here, im sure many other members including my self are willing to help.

Yes, somewhat close to it.

If you replace the "V" section of the exhaust, it'll be louder, but still around the 350Z sound you want to acheive.

I personally would replace the V-section with 2.25in piping. but thats your choice.

Whichever one you want. Quieter/Louder.

Never had personal experience with them on AV6 yet personally.

However, Iam trying to gather information for Greddy MX and Tanabe exhausts to add here.

If anybody has any ideas for these 2 exhausts, please post.

I have an AV6 7th gen and I want to remove from the picture above the catallytic converter and the 2 resonators after it. I was thinking of putting a 2.5 tube straight down, just before the Y separation were it divides towards the 2 mufflers. I want to keep the stock mufflers for now. How will it sound, will it affect low end torque, what gains and losses are expected, will it be too loud, and will the check engine light up. Also, you think it will affect the guarantee? Thank you.

First off, assuming that 7th gen AV6 has very similar exhaust setup as 6th gen AV6, which I really do think it is, here are my opinions.

Im not sure about removing the Cat. is good idea. You don't really wanna go that illegal. Smog is a *****.

If you want to remove echo limitor, and the main resonator[AKA pre-muffler], just this factor will increase LOTS of exhaust note.

Now, if you are adding straight 2.5inch custom piping through this without any resonator between, exhaust sound will increase much more.

However, it seems like you are keeping your stock mufflers.
Stock AV6 mufflers also cover V-pipe section too.
This means, your straight 2.5inch Custom Piping and stock muffler pipings will need some cut & welding process[information coming directly from meineki].
This setup that most exhaust shops do not recommand.
Because of the difficulty, and not enough "cost to gain" ratio.

Creating Y-pipe is pain in the butt. I've given $200 quote just for the small Y-section pipe where 2 pipes join together.
You will need Straight 2.5 pipe, mendrel bent-professonally welded/made V joint section where two pipes joins together, then it has to be welded to stock exhaust muffler tube, which will require cutting process for stock muffler tube to be welded with custom piping.

Which also means that you are trashing your stock exhaust mufflers because of the cutting/welding process.

This idea doesn't seem like a bad idea though.
2.5inch piping definitely has more than enough tube diameter for our J30As to breath out.
Giving a smaller tubing at the end might help a little low-end, that I do not know and will not guarantee.
In my honest opinion, minimal gains.

As far as sound goes, cabin noise will be definitely increased.
From distance, Intead of exhaust note out of the back, it might even seem like its coming out from the whole car.
Which isn't a good thing for daily driving.

No one really have done this in this forum I believe, you can be the first one to try it out and give us a little more detailed advice.

If you are that kind of person who do not want to fail yourself at all, I would just go get some quality mufflers and add custom piping to it.
2.5in piping-> 2.25in piping -> 2.25in muffler might fit your taste.
