Warranty on Factory leather? - 6th gen owners especially...

hey guys/gals
I got a 2001 Coupe, just today I noticed my drivers seat has a small wear/minor rip near the seams, see attached picture.
Is this covered under factory warranty? It shouldn't wear out that fast, I even had the leather treated when I got it new...even my friends old car hasn't had a tear in it yet. And no I don't abuse my car, and no it wasn't scratched by me either so it shouldn't be a factor...

edit: I just noticed the passenger side has no rip in it yet but I see it wearing out leading to a crack eventually same kinda crack/drying out..

What do you think??
Have you experienced it too??
Warranty?

hey sir001, had the same problem with my steering wheel (2002) went to the dealer and showed that the leather was peeling and they replaced it. also my buddies dads CL's leather was wearing in like a month and acura replaced it. so i think the dealer should replace it under warrenty.

my steering wheel has a good deal of wear on it, looks almost like clear coat peel. and yeah on my 98 that part of the drivers seat isn't looking too hot anymore. thats where most of the wear on the seat is in fact

I'm at about 31,000KM which is about 19,200Miles. Still within the 3year warranty period I believe.

I have a rip in the exactly same spot of my 01 AV6 leather driver's seat also. I'm gonna take it to the dealer to have them fix it (hopefully they will).

This seems to be a very common problem. I have about 30k miles on my car also.

My passenger side has a little starting as well, not ripped yet, but worn mark...just not noticable..seems like the leather wears away there and starts to crack. pain in the ass, gotta go into the dealer this week.

for those that got it repair/replaced.....what they do exactly, repair or replace the seat/leather piece???

Yeah you can tell that the middle part looks different than the rest of the seat. What is the rest of the seat covering made out of then?

maybe it's plether? (plastic leather vinyl?)
yeah some areas of mine looked dry and cracked and the cracks eventually lead to minor tears on the drivers side. While on the passenger the part that looks like it's gonna crack soon seems dry in that area.

I had mine leather treated and care for it by doing what the manual says, clean it with water and once a year I'll treat it with a product that Jaguar uses that my friend lends me.

It's not the quality of the leather that's causing the problem, it's the seat design. The large side bolsters of the coupe's seats take more of a beating because your body rubs against them hard when you get in and out of you car. It's not just the AV6 that has this problem. I've noticed it a lot on Preludes and Integras and it's not just leather. I've seen cloth seats in those cars with huge holes right there on the outside bolster. I guess the only way to prevent it is to invest in some seat covers.

I have the same problem also. I have a 2000 Accord Coupe,
and both of my front seats have that same exact tear in the same spot as those in the pictures.

Of course, my car was out of warranty before I noticed the tear!!!

Definately some cheap leather(or pleather)!!!!

I got the same tear on mine when i bought my 00, although my car had high miles, it was the only tear it had, in that same spot.
mine it pretty big and it made me realise that honda doesnt use real leather, on thier seats, atleast in the accord. that **** is not leather, i peeld back mine and looked on the back and i was very disappoinnted, to see pleather or leatherette, or whatever it is, i looked further, i pulled out my rear seat bottom to look underneath it and it was the same thing, fake leather.

TH23 made a very good point though, like damn near all car that you have that tear or wear right there, it takes a real beating man, i hope the acuras have better "leather" cause the german cars they compete with use the real deal, and that not good fro competition.
