Best Accord?

I am considering purchasing an Accord...which model is the best to get and why.? I am interested in performance and also gas mileage, and relibility. Thanks for you help! Here are the main quesitons I need answered

1.V-6 or 4cyl (I know the name of the forum but I feel it is an important question why the V-6 is superior...and why it could be inferior to the 4-cyl)

2. 2 door or 4 door?

3. which package should I get...ex dx lx ect.....

Thanks for all the help guys (and gals) and have a good one'

=V6 verus I4 -

I4 has the gas milage
V6 has the performance

=2 door or 4 door -

What are you? Have you own a car before!?
It's your preference..

Unless your talking about mods.. I think there are more mods in the 2 door.
Of course you know 2 door the insurance is higher than the 4 door.

V6 manual only come in Coupe. (you know 2 door)

= Trim level
DX, LX, EX - just have options

DX is the entry model
LX is the mid level model
EX is the top of the line

both engines are fine.. it the transmission issue in the 6th generation V6 that have problems

The current generation is 7th.. those are 2003 and up
6th : 1998-2002 automatic only for V6, I4 had manual and automatic

7th generation have manual transmission option for V6 and I4

V6 manual only for the coupe 6 speed manual verus 5 speed automatic.
I4 manual or automatic (don't remember the # of gears on the 7th)

I think there is a issue with the V6 automatic transmission on the 7th also but it different problem. do a search on transmission you get alot of information.

Visit the 7th Generation forum if your getting a 2003+ honda accord

Really it depends on you, myself i prefer 2 door accord v6. The car runs smoothly and is pretty quick.

Compare the spec of both cars and then decide ...

Are you going performance or for looks?

i would go with the spec v , this car can move, reliable from what i have heard , and has a descent amount of aftermarket support . also u get a manual and u dont have to worry about ur tranny crapping out on u . both the v6 (definitelty ) and the i4 6th gen accord autos have problematic trannys

Spec V is horrible. Inside and out its ugly as hell. I never knew the interior sucked so bad til i sat in one.

IMHO I would say get a 6th gen 4banger and turbo it. The v6 isnt gonna outdo a turbo 4 banger. The f23's are very very strong and can hold more than 10psi stock block and all.

If I could Id trade my V6 for a 4banger. I just love my options on the v6 though.

v6, ex, coupe

more horsepower to begin with, generally better interior with leather and sunroof(you better get leather!) lol and a coupe.. well I am biased I own one and love it. Btw, make a pole or something with the different option you have above.. how do you keep track of the results?

SE/R

please don't buy a 6th gen, its just problem after problem for me, the only reason i have mine is my parents gave it to me and all its life its been taken good care of

if u really want an accord get a brand new one, treat it good, especially the transmission

my friends always give me sht about tuning a "family sedan" and a "economy car"

you wont get respect for an accord unless you spend grand after grand on modifications (tastefully)

if your going to get an I4, an accord would be the last I4 on the planet I would buy

go sit in and drive both. the lil sentra is cool and all and has some pick up. but imo i would pick the accord it is more comfy to me. i feel more safe in the accord too. i have a 6gen I4 5spd its not the fastest but i have fun with it. to me i like the 6th gen better than 7th even though the 7th is growing on me. but thats my opinion. you can get leather in either one. even get one with out and swap the interior.

good luck with your choice.

Thanks for all the input...I am really not too fond of the SE/R's interior either, but I like the fact that it is pretty quick, finances wont allow me to get a 7th gen or an Acura so I am pretty much stuck between an accord coup (manual) or a S/ER Spec V....hmmm if my budget was only 15,000 instead of 12,000

Keep the opinions and facts commin'

SEDANs are hott =] i love my family car! IMO - a fixed up coupe is beautiful...but not too rare...to me a fixed up sedan just shows another level of creativity =]. But given the option, I'd take two doors off of my car just because I'd like to be able to take out the back seats and make it a two seater accord =]

as far as SE/R vs Accord........Accord...it's a fun car to drive and it turns heads when you mod it correctly =]

here ya go after owning a av6 coupe auto I wouldve bought a:

98-02 Honda Accord I4 manual
2 door, fully loaded black on black EX

I hate av6 coupes cause of the dumb trans, and aftermarket for it... Everything is expensive to mod the av6 you need at least 8+ grand to make the dumb thing move... I wouldve rather invested all of my mod on money on an I4 opposed to a V6 ...and i would had extra money to swap the motor and boost it... (under 8 grand....) IMO

You need to find new friends, because it really shouldn't matter to them what the hell you want to tune. If you want to tune a freakin saturn, so be it.

I don't know about you, but I don't mod my accord to get respect. You know how I get respect? I don't drive like an idiot, or like i'm compensating for something. That's how I get respect. I mod my Accord because I love cars, and if you're trying to go fast in an Accord, then this is not the right car for you. Like you said, it's a FAMILY SEDAN and an ECONOMY CAR. If you want to go fast, buy a damn sports car.

Last, it amazes me that an accord would be the last I4 on the planet you would buy. I mean I could list off so many more POS cars out there with 4-bangers that I wouldn't even consider over an Accord.

If I sound like i'm trying to flame you, i'm sorry. But this is a godamn Accord forum, and comments like yours makes me wonder why the hell you're even a member. Okay, i'm done.

In his defense, not like I know him or anything, he's got a V6. Which he never talked bad about, he just doesn't want a 4 banger accord. Given the Accord's "problems" might as well go for the one with more HP off the bat. Think about it, why not, it may weigh more due to the engine weight difference, but IMHO V6 is better than an I4 anyday. he likes his accord. DONE!
