What would be a good price for this job

I stopped by my body shop today to ask about getting a dent out of one of my doors and got to talking with the guy about getting the car repainted.

One thing led to another and eventually I got to thinking, what would a decent price be to have the side moldings removed, all the dings out of the door and have all 4 doors repainted?

I know some people have done this on the site, but I was curious... what would be a good price? what wouldn't you pay more than?

(I'd be having the side moldings removed, the holes filled, say 5 dents fixed and the door handles painted to match)

Shop around, you should be able to find out if your quote is a good deal or not, and get a good average price.

body shops are crooks in my opinion, did you get an estimate? that job would probably cost between $1500-$2500 easy, they will get you with the labor rate.

the sad part is they would do the work using less than a $1000 bucks of labor and material, they are able to just get away with blatant over pricing. only good advice i can give is to stay the F away from maaco, they will destroy your car

In NY, your prices should be more competitive...but it still comes down to the quality of the materials you're using & the labor price the shop gives you. If you're looking for a particular price, most shops will just compromise by using cheaper materials or cutting corners on the labor end. Paint & body work is a very difficult field to actually come across a good deal, unless you're doing the work yourself. Any halfway decent paintjob (exterior & jambs) should cost no less than $1500 with OEM-quality materials, and the price goes up from there for better materials or other body repairs. If you pay less than that, corners are getting cut...plain and simple. For what you're describing, I'd say $2000 is a fair price for a full respray, the side molding job, and a few dents being taken out (hopefully the correct way & not just bondo'd over). Good luck man, shopping around is your best bet to keep these shops honest. Use that to your advantage, but make sure you specify the quality of materials & labor...if you just ask for a price, one shop might quote you a price using an entirely different level of materials than another just to undercut the competitors. Be specific, get it all in writing, and get feedback from previous customers.
