My new backup cam installed

So, I had originally ordered a Chinese "CCD" backup cam from eBay, shipped from Hong Kong & took 2 weeks :thumbsdow It mounts in the right passenger side license plate light holder, thus limiting your ability to angle the cam as you please.

So, instead I ordered this 120˚ wide-angle CCD backup cam that delivered today. I got around to installing it, and let me just say, I am completely satisfied with both the quality and it's ability to be discreetly hidden.

On with the pics!

Packaging:

It's so small! Size does matter

Our trunks were MADE for this cam. The size is exact

Get out your electric drill, as you'll be drilling through bare metal:

The provided drill bill:

Hole drilled - don't be scurred!

Snug as a bug:

Soldered connections to 12V Reverse tied in with the Navi 12V Reverse wire for power among shifting into [R]

Crystal clear video. I have it currently pointed down towards the bumper itself, as that's mainly what I care about in terms of a backup cam - just how far can I go?? But the cam is 360˚ adjustable! Left/Right, Up/Down.

Discreet:

My rating: 5 stars. Ships from Staten Island, NY too - so no dealing with International (loooong) wait times!

I told ya I'd get it installed ASAP so you could have comparison pics I'll be leaving for work at 3am so I'll test out night viewing then; and see if that mounting location is affected by the plate lights

Put some paint or nail polish on that hole you drilled!

I have the cheap chinese ccd.
works fine for the price but i wish it was centered like yours
im curious how yours looks at night w the reverse lights

did you have to make a custom molex plug for the dvd player?

Jowell,

What part would/do you need help with buddy? I don't have a diagram but could take you more pics if needed. Basically the '06-07 Navi has a built in backup cam input (connector with 4 wires, 1 looped) and a Navi Reverse 12V wire.

Find the green 12V reverse wire, located under the trunk lining on the driver side, and solder (or tap if not comfortable with soldering) the 12V Reverse input wire from the Navi. The 12V + also gets connected to the OEM 12V reverse light wire to receive power to the cam when in [R], and the black ground can either be stripped and directly grounded to a chassis bolt, or solder/tap into the ground of the reverse light Then connect the video RCA from the cam to the RCA input on the DVD-ROM. Very simple, took me 20 minutes to install my first cam, and only about 10 minutes to update it to this cam (completely diff connectors so all of the old wiring had to be removed)

Mike: Thanks brotha!

Already done, my friend But that was just precautionary...the actual drilled part is inside that hole, the body itself was never touched. I'm telling you, it's like that hole was MADE for this cam haha It is the exact dimensions for the drill bit and the cam. Basically you're drilling out the metal that the black plastic clip fastens into

For Power I used backup lights. Some do use other source but then the camera is on all the time.

There are tons of AM screens that people use. If you do a search on Amazon for "Backup cam" many systems return that include the cam + viewing screen (looks like a TomTom XXL or Garmin, sort of)

CCD > CMOS in terms of picture quality/color/low lighting resolution (420 lines VS 120-180 lines)

The link has been in the OP since the second it was posted...

As far as night, it seems to be performing very well. Too hard to get a good realistic pic of it though as the camera focuses on the bright light of the navi screen and distorts the image in the picture.

I say, get it girl! I'm quite pleased with it and would rate it up there among the major name brands (Sony, Philips, etc.)

Just a couple of questions for you

How are you finding the camera after using it for a month or so?
And is the night vision any good?

I've been wanting to replace my camera for awhile now just haven't quite found the right one.

Thanks!

i'm trying to make my OEM back up cam work for my trunk spoiler. i need your help figuring out the wires. here's pics of the harness that came w/ my spoiler. for the monitor, i need two RCA wires for video and power, that's it.

btw, sorry for the pics. don't mind the lip of my rim

Edited: I forget about the power!! The red could be the power wire for the camera.

I would also try yellow(video). Only way to find out is you trying it out unless someone knows for sure
