Anyone else serious about car audio?

I was just wondering if anyone else out there is a car audio enthusiast.

If so, I got some questions:

How do you keep your rear view mirror from folding vertical and bouncing off the glass?

How did you keep the sun visors from bouncing off the roof?

Has anyone done the Big 3 yet?

Has anyone found a place to get a high output alternator?

I did a local MECA competition - pic included

1.) Took it off? Well I guess that makes sense, I cant really see out of it anyways
2.) I found that if you put them all the way forward, they dont bounce .... I cant STAND rattling
3.) Was the Big 3 difficult? It doesn't look so bad for a Honda - any tips?
4.) I contacted Dom about the alternator and he gave me the price of $659

For Sound dampening, I am using RAAMmatt V3 ... it is as thick as Dynammatt extreme, it sticks great to vertical surfaces, and it is a fraction of the cost. It did *AMAZING* things to my car. I havent even used one full roll yet, 62.5 sq ft, and it is as quiet as both of my parents Lexus. 2 of my friends bought rolls after I did because of how impressed they were.

He sells it for even cheaper on eBay

Picture of what the RAAMmatt looks like on the trunk lid (which still stands up without stronger springs). I filled the empty holes in the trunk lid with foam then covered it all with RAAMmatt

I did the outer layer of skin on the door, then sealed up the doors with the RAAMmatt, now it makes a very solid *thud* sound when it closes, similiar to Mercedes

Yes, I actually drove around with crossovers dangling because we kept on adjusting them.

Gotta have the 0 gauge in the car

What my new trunk floor looks like. We hadn't decided on what material to wrap it with at time of the picture, but it will either be vinyl matching the box or fiberglassing it all. The Plexiglass hasnt been installed in this pic either

Sudo finsihed product. I am switching up the subs, so this is just temproary. People are usually like "WHAT!? THOSE ARE TYPE R's!!" .... its all in the install

Picture of the Alpine 9831 installed - What a pile of junk. I now have a Pioneer Premier p860 and everything sounds 5x better. It is a lot louder in my car - only wished I could have gotten metered with the new deck.

Car getting ready to be metered. It brings a tear to my eye.

no love for the alpine huh . for #1 if you know exactly where you have it all the time you can shoot some silicone in there it wont be mobile. it will just stay in one position.

Too many people drive my car for me to just have it stable in one position.

I heard I could drill a hole into the mirror and fill it with something to make it dense .... anyone ever done something like that?

vvt-i, holy crap, thanks for the list! I got something to do at work tomorrow

I guess I found out why the alternator prices were so expensive for our cars. Here is what Dom posted at Sounddomain.

"Just so you guys know, The new Accords with his motor have somewhat of an exotic alternator. Its something new that Denso has come up with and is 100% custom built and is a Hoss to manufacture. There may be an older model of alternator that fits the same motor, but I havent see one and its highly unlikely that it even exists. :-)

Dom"

*sigh* Damn you Honda

spac3d,
what class did you compete in? SPL? SQ? SQL?
did they use TermLab?
did you compete with the car on or off?
did you dampen anything else besides the doors and trunk?
for the mirror issue, your best bet would be to take it off. i use a Broadway mirror and i dampened the back of it to absorb some of the vibration. it helped a little but not a whole lot.

cause it is so hard to find anything. this site is not dedicated to one car and ppl don't title the threads with what vehicle they are talking about, so it makes it hard to find stuff. it's hard to search cause you don't know exactly what to search on to find only 7g accord stuff.

I just checked your site, but it's a 6g.

I know how to do ICE install, just not in the 7g accord.

thats why u should address the ICE in the AVE section

and even tho I have a 6th gen, ICE is very similar in both, concepts all the same for all cars

I did just SPL, but will do SQ next time. I didn't have my components done, but I think I would have done pretty damn well. There is no SQL part of the competition.

Yes, they used TL

Car On

I dampened the floor (driver + passenger only), doors, trunk, trunk lid, sides of trunk. Then I stuff foam in lots of places, like empty cavaties in trunk lid, rear deck, and between the side plastic moldings for rear seat and the shell of the car.

I am determined to modify my mirror so the bass doesnt affect it so much.

----------------------

About the alternator issue, I just got this email:
For your 2004 Accord, 4cyl:

Use Starcharge #290-5018-160A. At 160 amps, this is the highest output unit we make for your car. Installs without any modifications or rewire. Made of all new components, not rebuilt or remanufactured. Cost $349.00 + shipping.

Note: Because of the new model year, please provide part # that is on stock alternator. There is a tag with this info on the alternator. It should also contain a diagram identifying the plug pin letters. This is also needed to assure compatibility.

For more info, questions, or to order, call 800-827-4244, M-F, 8AM-5PM eastern.

Cliff/ Startech Inc./ www.gostartech.com

^--- for competing, the alternators dont get any better than Dom's - I guess I am jsut curious how these type of people can offer so much power for so cheap - is it real? *shrug*

if you want to search just 7gen.. you can go advance search and select 7gen forum.. but then again.. loulax07 said.. most ice related stuff are moved to AVE section..

ps.. this reminds me to ask sr mod if this thread considered to be one..
