DIY - Install front 6.5" speakers in doors! - lots of pics

First go to the DIY everything, and learn how to take of the inner door panel.

Door panel briefing: Very simple
(Remove 2 plastic covers, 3 Phillip head screws, lots of clips, a couple of Electical plugs, one light, and the door handle.)

After that, Remove the speaker by sticking pliers between plastic and metal, and leverage/pull out. (this may break part of the plastic speaker frame...but who cares?)

My new speakers were to deep to just mount. Not to mention, the basket was WAY too large to fit into the hole provided.

So, I chose to buy the universal 5.25" / 6.5" speaker mounting spacers. (1 inch thick) I got them from Best Buy, for around $13. AVI, Circuit City, and any other car audio store should have them. My speaker basket was a little too large for the spacer ...

but, after a little work....

Next, you will have to remove the ring on the inside of the door panel. It's not that difficult.... just a little tedious at times. Follow the pics below:

From here on, it is MUCH easier to have an extra helping hand. Place the speaker in the spacer, and pre-fit to where you want it. Use a marker to mark the best location.

Pre-wire both of them, and test to make sure the polarity is correct. - Close the doors, put the bass up, fade to the front, hold both speakers in door firmly, and listen. Then change the polarity on one of the speakers and repeat. Wire in the way that sound the best.... It should be noticable.

Finishing look:

Phew... Here are the pics. It wouldn't allow me to give the Large view, but this should work.

PS - I would like the thank my good friend (with the Atlanta Braves Cap Avitor) for helping me post the pics.... and you too, Brex.

Hope you guys like it...

I'm waiting for BREX (or any moderator, for that matter) to give me their email address so I can send the pics to them, and they can post them. I don't know how to post pics.

I like how NDeed put a lot of though into the naming conventions for the pictures. Very organized NDeedOne! Why didn't you post the pictures man?

EDIT: To post pics....First upload them into your gallery. All members have free space. Click gallery up top. Then go to "MY gallery", then the "Upload pictures" link to the right. I know you can figure out the upload part of the process. Then, get the picture you want to post on your monitor, right-click, go to properties. Copy the URL and then paste it in between the [img] [/img] tags. Your done! I can't wait to see the pics buddy.

did you use self tapping screws to finalize the speaker install?

Sticky sticky sticky. I took a different (ergo cheaper) approach, but this is sweet. Well done!

I used some fine toothe "stinger" screws. The ones with the super sharp point on the front, and everyone used to make sub boxes with. Note: the finer toothe ones...Worked great. didn't pre drill, just drilled screw right in.

Mishima8 - was your "cheaper method" using MFD to make your rings?

Thanks for the pics! Great write up.

A few questions-
Does this new setup eliminate the use of the tweeters mounted on the dash?

Can the door go back together ok with the spacer pushing the speaker out so far?

Thanks!

No, the factory tweets are still installed. I can't hear them anymore with the sharpness of the new setup, though.

Yes, it clips in perfectley. The factory speaker sticks out about 1" (look at the 1st pic) to begin with, so the new on is only 1 and some change inches out (look at the last pic). I took a bright flashlight to see inside the grill after the panel was on, and the new tweet is about 1 - 1.5 inches away from touching the inside of the grill.

Hi, I'm new here guys. I just wanted to know if anyone changed the front speakers in the accord coupe? I noticed that the coupe door is very different from the sedan. Also the door handle seems to be stuck on the door panel. Any one has experience with this?

I'm not sure, but I would think that Honda will stick with the same type of clip for the door handle. First unroll your window (its makes it a lot easier to remove the handle). After that, once you get to the point where the door handle is stuck, look from the back, and you may see some clips holding it on. (one on the top, one on the bottom, and I think one in the front) give it a try one more time.... I think you should be able to see it and get it withe the window down. good luck.

Hey moderators, I was wanting to "free up" some space on "My Gallery" so that I could put more cool pics, instead of just these DIY pics. I was wondering if there was a way that you guys could either give me some more space to put pics, or remove these from "my Gallery" and put them in a differant area so that people could still use it if they would like. Just let me know some kind of way. Thanks.
