No, you shouldn't buy the soundgate seperate. That is, unless you are intending on doing some special install such as with Navi & XM. I believe the only place you can buy it from is directly from the maker of the module which is Dension USA. THIS is where I bought mine from.

Yeah they been selling out a lot.

For a couple days they were listed at logjamelectronics.com as out of stock, but they're gone now.

They have a new similar product out that seems to be fairly comparable but doesn't route power for you. It runs about $160.

Personally, I'd still stick with Icelink.

Well not cd-text right. There has to be a way because xm radio gets the info on there. When i called them they said they were reworking it for the 04 accords or something so he wasn't sure. Not sure how true that is but u know... one can hope.

XM displays?
I sure didn't know that.
I'd be all about it if they did put it into the firmware eventually.

The IceLink will not be able to display the text on the stock HU. There's an explanation in the instructions that ship with the module. I'm not sure what was the cause, but apparently there is some software not available in the stock HU that allows text display. The XM uses something different though.

I'm confused, the guy who wrote this page http://homepage.mac.com/davewiller/I...toAlbum15.html

used soundgate and icelink for his install, but didnt specify that he was doing anything special. So once again, do we need soundgate in addition to icelink or not?

not sure why he had to buy a soundgate really.... could have something to do with it being an early install. It was one of the first I'd seen. Maybe Icelink wasn't shipping their adapter yet.
Short answer : No.
Icelink is shipped with an adapter unless you request otherwise, but the price difference is less than the price of the soundgate, so you'll just end up spending more.

Firmware warning

I recently updated the firmware on my ipod mini, and my icelink stopped responding.
I had to unplug the adapter from my HU and reconnect to get it to recognize again.
Thankfully it's actually possible to reach it with some channel lock plyers without taking everything apart again.
Problem is, it works now, but the icelink menu's don't respond right. I'm having to bring up a playlist and get it playing, and then replace it in the icelink dock.
It must have something to do with the changes to the firmware that integrated someof the new menu options from the ipod shuffle.

Dunno if the icelink firmware updates have accounted for it yet, but anyone who's planning to update the firmware on their ipods, may want to update their icelink firmware first.
I've e-mailed Dension but no real answers yet.
I'm assuming that means their present firmware updates havn't fixed it yet. I'd wait for the next one.

That sucks. It does say something about updating in the online manual though, it says you shouldnt unplug it during the update since it will permanently damage it. I dont even have one, so im just speculating. I just do a lot of extensive research before i invest money into something.

that's good advise when updating anything's firmware.
Half updated frequently means less than half functional.
