I got JL Audio VR690 CXi 6x9's in the back and it made a big difference. Make sure the 6x9's magnet is not too large or it will hit the torsion bar in the back (see in the pic) I'm going with some JL Audio 6.5 components in the front and a single 10" sub with a 5 channel MTX amp. I should have it all in next month.

for my fronts, i have boston acoustic. subwoofers i have 2 12" memphis subs with 2 memphis amps (one 4-channel for the front and 2 channel for the sub). memphis makes great amps (especially if you want to push 1ohm). because im pushing 2 12s, i crossfaded out my rear speakers because my subs will disort the sound from the rear (regardless if its stock or not).

before you make a buy, do your research on products and etc. mtx makes GREAT AMPS. mtx is very affordable in price, especially on the ebay. the only thing about mtx is that they dont have good cooling system, you prob have to buy fans. but they produce A LOT of power. memphis makes good amps, and they tend to be expensive but i actually got them at a good price. if you're looking for hard hitting tight bass, memphis makes nice 12s at an affordable price. but if you're gonna go with one 12" or 10", get an image dynamic perfect sub or a jl sub.

check out cardomain.com and crutchfield for info and reviews. take your time on what you want. call the audio places and ask a lot of questions, and find friends that know a lot of info on audio.

here are pics of my memphis subs and amps. no pictures of the fronts because you cant see them, but i love my boston acoustic in the fronts. the mid bass is nuts!

i still have a lot of room in the trunk. doesnt seem like it in the pic, but enough to take out my spare tire.

I have the kappa 693.5i, i do have clearance problems. The bar hits the speaker basket, but i shoved some foam in between and its not that serious of a contact though. It does however create more rattles back there than id like.

Do you have an amp powering these?
I'm thinking of an upgrade while keeping the stock HU.

Why the Infinity's? How do they sound compared to the stock speakers?

Thanks.

As a piggyback question to ipribadi's question... how many watts does the stock amp provide for the 6x9's?

The 5AT provides about 15 watts RMS to each channel
The 6MT provides about 23 watts RMS to each channel

Bottom line .. it ain't much

I was thinking of the Kenwood eXelon 6x9" since they have a sensitivity of 93dB .. but nobody has given them a strong thumbs up for sound quality compared to other high end speakers.

I did have an amp powering them for a while, and when i had it, WOW. No need for subs, lol. But my amp blew after a while, and i put it back to my stock HU and it still sounds better, but not a whole lot.

I know this is a newbie question however... do our cars have amps in there, or is the speaker feed coming straight from the HU? If it is the latter if we were to hook it up to an amp we use that as the feed in correct?

Yeah no external amp, just power from the HU.
I'm trying to keep things simple by avoiding the amp (need to pull cables for power, remote power on, audio signal, fuses, etc) and just upgrading the speakers.

My question of all time:
Which speakers (front and rear) would give the best sound being powered by the stock 120watt max HU?

All the answers I've had thus far are speakers that only sound good when powered with an external amp.

That is because most high(er) quality speakers have a higher power rating that what the HU can provide. If you are using the HU to power these speakers they will obviously be underpowered and you will not benefit from the full capabilities of the speakers. My plan is to upgrade my speakers and keep them witht he stock HU till I can afford a nice amp to power it all. I have a sub anyway so power is not an issue for me.

I currently have an infinity basslink (still under the return period)... I was thinking of getting the kappa's (or another set minding clearance issues cuz of that stupid rod). My question is... Can I get a 4 channel amp say for example the RF Punch P4004. Can I use this to power 2 rears and a sub? That way I can get rid of the basslink, get another small sub (I don't want anything too powerful, I had a 15" kicker solo) and get 6x9's. Is this possible and if so will everything have enough power? Thanks.

I like most Accord owners have been looking into this as well. I am completley sold on MB quartz ever since my first set I had back in 2000. After speaking with a few audio shops they were telling me that the stock head unit power of 180watts isn't powerful enough to get the full potential of the MB Quartz.

That being said, a friend of mine that's a audio installer reccomeneded the JL Audio Clean Sweep. The Clean Sweep basically allows you to add an amp, aftermarket speakers, whatever you want to the factory unit without losing any functionality. JL Audio saw the need for a device such as this and spent two years researching and engineering a component to do this. In the brochure they even use an Accord as their model vehicle.

Soon as I get back from Iraq this is more than likely what I will go with along with the MB Quartz reference series speakers and a MB Quartz or JL Audio 10' sub.

Hmm that's weird the Tweeter here has on on the showroom floor and told me if I wanted it it was $400+Install and it would be about 2 weeks since they're coming from the warehouse and it's a first come first serve type deal because more people are getting them than expected, but I'm gonna put my order in next week
