Aftermarket navigation/DVD

Could anyone share his experience with a recommended aftermarket nav + setup + price? Thanks! I'm looking at the pioneer avic-n1, hopefully the price goes down when the n2 arrives. Any Alpine users have a suggestion?

I have installed a few N1's, they are very nice. The new n2 has XM's NAV Traffic which will provide you with real time traffic updates. The only thing with the N2 is that you will not be able to watch video while the car is in motion (not that you should be anyhow). I'm not certain if you are aware how to bypass this security feature on the N1, but it can't be done on the N2. Either of the 2 units are very nice, and well worth the money IMO. Good luck

P.S. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
P.P.S. I can see what I can do as far as getting one from my job, just email me ([email protected]) and I'll see what I can do

Does anybody have pics of this installed in their hondas? I think the metra kit is ugly and want to upgrade to navi. Any good mounting solutions for this unit such as the one on top of the vents? Post pics if you have any mounted in your car. Also if you put it in the compartment by the shifter, pics and do you like it there?

I spoke with my boss today and said he would sell the AVIC-N1's new for $1500 + shipping. As noted the item is NIB. email me at [email protected] or PM for additional info.

I'll also check into prices for the Alpine and Kenwood monitors as well.

The Best

Alpine AVIC-N1? you meen Pioneer?

Honda's NAVI is regarded as the best NAVI on the market. Honda NAVI is based on Alpine's NAVI. hence...Alpine's NAVI is one of the best. not sure how Pioneer's is, but Alpine's will be very similar to the Honda's.

It's been done. I believe on a TSX, which isn't too different from an AV6.

Eclipse hands down would get my vote.

Honda OEM/Alpine is regarded as best OEM Navi, not overall. I would choose Eclipse, then Pioneer then maybe Alpine if it was aftermarket. Alpine is by far Not the leader in aftermarket Navi.

Anybody have pictures of aftermarket navi's they mounted? Either the portable garmin's or others using the metra kit or in the pocket? On a drive home I was thinking... what if somebody made an angled scoop that we could use to mount the navi on the pasenger side under the airbag (hope it doesn't ever need to open) but angled in such a manner that it was for the driver only, yet not obstructive. I know its a stretch... but i think the pocket would be too low, and the kit where it goes above the vents would be too high and asking for a ticket. Let me know what you guys think and post pics if you have any.

I know this is somewhat of an old thread but I too would like to see some pics of the pioneer avic-n2 mounted in an accord. Also, you should be able to watch video while driving with both the avicn1's and 2's; my cousin just got the n1 and I watched a video while he drove me around. He did nothing to bypass the security on it either. But I want to know more about the n2, like how it fits and what all it covers when mounted in the cubby hole. Thanks

what about the pioneer avic-d2. Its a nice dual din touchscreen. I like it more than the n1-n2 flip style.

Check out the Eclipse AVN5435, it's double din and fits perfectly in the cubby hole area. I had it in my 7th gen for 2 months but yanked it this week. Not enough EQ for me, plus in the end I didn't care for the NAVI and DVD stuff. Thought I would use it but nah.

the eclipse navi is almost 90% similar to the ones used in lexus, they must be really good

the LS430 navi vs my accord navi....

I would personally prefer the accord one because i can use it while i'm drivin, it doesn't lock things out like the lexus ones, i'm not sure if it does that w/ the aftermarket eclipse

overall, the alpine one is easier to use at least in the OEM one, easier to find what you are looking for. The eclipse on the other hand, needs a while of gettin used to

The navi system is based of Navtech (same as used by mapquest), niw the DVD and the DVD player that play the DVD is made by Alpine. The software that reads the DVD i am pretty sure is a windows based OS from way back when stripped down. This also includes IBM's voice talk software as well.

I have heard aftermarket the best to be Pioneer but i never actually used it. Or get a Magellion (sp?) there good too.

No, sorry. I had meant to take a few shots before I removed it. I had it mounted in the Honda OEM audio attachment (see here ) but don't remember where I got it and I didn't pay that price. All in all, it fit just fine.
