Sound quality with ipod icelink?

I wanted to ask those of you who have Icelink, hows the sound quality, and if you played around with the EQ settings and stuff on the ipod.

eq doesn't do a real lot. Sound quality's only gonna get as good as your files are. So long as you're playing files ripped at a high bitrate, it sounds like cd quality.

I haven't messed with the settings that much. You should, however, go to the IceLink setup menu and set the volume output to the maximum setting. This will help you get the most consistent sound from the playback. Any other setting is lower than the radio or a CD.

YUP, kramers right, just jack the volume on the ipod all the way up, or else you have to turn volume up to like 30 for average volumes.

??
With the icelink output at max it's way louder than the other sources for me.
Think I decided that 2v was the closest to matching.

outatime: Just try the settings out when you get it in.

I just finished installing my icelink last night and the thing sounds great! Much better than the monster FM Transmitter. I purchased mine from best buy! I couldnt beleive they had them in stock. I have a question about the icelink though. Does anybody else notice how hot it gets? I know most people have it hidden but I hooked it up to make sure it would work and after about 5 min of use it was very hot. Not quite sure if it gets hot enough to melt something down there but very possible. I just want to make sure mines not defective and get down the road and my accord catch on fire

....

I didn't notice mine getting hot. That'd suck though, since the foam mounting tape I used would probably melt and fall off. Don't really think I want to crack the thing open again to check.

Anyone else?

Dunno if mine gets hot...its tucked away. Mine stopped working for a while today, my head unit didnt recognize CDC anymore, so while i was in traffic I had to shut my car off and restart it, then it finally recognized it...was weird..

I didn't notice anything peculiar about it when I was installing it. Forget about pulling everything apart though. Mine is tucked away under the shifter area and cupholders. No problems thus far.

Isn't it hard to navigate through all of your music when you can't see the ipod? How do you know what you're going to play?

I just let the shuffle do its thing most of the time.
I can find the "play album" command blind, so if a song comes up and I want to hear the rest of the album I just kick that in.
Also, if you want to, you can take your ipod outa the cradle, select a song or album or playlist or whatever, pause it, and put it back in the cradle, it'll play whatever you already had going.

I've organized all of my 3000+ songs into genres. Then I made a "Smart Playlist" for each genre. That way I can get to playlists/genres easier. I have the dock connector (not the cradle) ran into my armrest bin so I just unplug it, go the playlist I want, then plug it back in, then place it back in the armrest. Viola!

I don't navigate through the menus via the iceLink menus, it's VERY slow to react and has that huge lag. I was very disappointed with the iceLink in that aspect.

Nope, no Nav here.

You're right about the lag Kramer. Kinda sh!tty. But I only use it for Play Album. Otherwise I just have the one playlist.

So I put mine in and everything is great but it's still too damn quiet even at ful volume in the icelink plus menu... I need it at 30 for average listening. Is there a setting (besides loudness in the EQ) I can select in the ipod so it's louder?

if you got the output at 4v already.... I dunno what to tell ya.
Check your RCA plugs. They can give sound at super low volumes if they aren't plugged all the way and tight. i'd tape the connection there too.

RCA's? Oh, I don't have RCA's, the new icelink plus is different. I got a y cable from honda and plugged it directly into the head unit.

im using a RCA to aux convertor I bought of the internet to hook up my kenwood sirius sat. radio.

what i did was i used the line out on the sirius connected it to the rca to aux convertor (bought from logjam) and into the headunit.

i have the same issue low volume output...have to have the radio cranked up...this is becuase i needed to install a ground loop isolator becuase i was getting a whinning nois that would increase as i accelerated. with the ground loop isolator installed it reduced the volume output too...rather listen to it low than have to hear that whinning noise...

i wonder if theres a way i can have my ipod and my sat. radio connected to the aux port and just switch between what i want to listen too by turning the ipod off and the sat. on or vice versa?

well my friend, welcome to my world. Only fix-it, is to live w/ it. sorry. The problem resides in poor quality of sirius unit, I've gone round and round w/ it.

hmm im gonna have to disagree...

the real problem is a combination of things...

1. there is something wrong with the ground in the aux convertor which leads to a whinning sound when accelerating.

2. to reduce the whinning sound you need to install a ground loop isolator.

3. the ground loop isolator is what reduces the volume of sound actuallly

the sirius unit pumps out sound at a perfect volume but the ground loop isolator is what is dampening the sound volume.

when i take the rca plug out of the unit and put it in my ipod i have the same problem..volume too soft.

when i remove the GLI the sound is much louder...but than i hear myself accelerating through the speakers..that's annoying!

but like you said rather just stick with it and deal ...atleast i dont have to have an fm modulator or tape adapter!

I've got a ground loop isolator installed and I don't have any problems with low volume.
