Heavy Duty Trunk Springs

I heard that the only way to get the heavy duty trunk springs is with the OEM spoiler...Is this correct ? ?

Thanks
Rick

Let us know if you find them. I had the spoiler when I took the car off the lot, but the Honda dealership didn't install any springs. I'm not sure if they screwed me over or if it wasn't part of the spoiler kit back in '03. Too bad I found out about the springs last week after my friend pointed it out. I figured having to lift it up was just one of the downsides of having a spoiler.

I bought the car 1.5 years ago and the dealer is 2500 miles away. I could try a local dealer, but I think they are just going to laugh at me.

Here you go #1 is what your looking for. $25.65. I switched mine using a hammer if you don't have the tool. Just be careful when it snaps back.

I've always been a bit confused about this. In normal operation should the trunk open all the way up?

I've got the spoiler, and when I pop the trunk, it goes up a little over half way, like it's almost about to catch it, then it goes back down and hovers a few inches open.

I've heard some people say all they get is a pop and it goes up a few inches. So is what I have as good as it gets, or should I install these springs too?

those springs should have been replaced when honda stuck on the tail.. out of 5 of our 7thgens, only mine came with those strong springs. they ordered the other 4 springs to be put on the other cars. just tell honda that the trunks are suppose to come atleast 6" up when pressed.

Where and for how much did you get your spoiler? I'm looking for one too! I see on ebay some for $130 painted and shipped.

Back to topic .. hehe
Yeah, if you're okay with your trunk getting slammed hard everytime someone
ELSE tries to close it, then you're fine.
I put a whole lot of Dynamat on the trunk of my 7g coupe and hated everytime people slammed my trunk.

But I agree, a pair of twisted steel rods shouldn't cost $40.

I ordered my heavy duty trunk springs through the dealer for 50, then noticed it didn't raise like it used to, so i bought the tool from handa-accessories for 15. It's a real pain to put them in. The trunk should raise about 6 inches with the spoiler on if you have the heavy duty springs installed.

I believe I paid about that much on ebay.....the guy that I bought mine from no longer sells on ebay...so much for there lifetime gaurantee....I would just make sure they have good feedback on matching paints and that they will fit in the spot that the dealer/factory put them on....2 small indentation under the trunk.....
Rick
P.S
Why dynomat on the trunk ? How much noise do you get coming in from the trunk ?

I went to a dealer here in CA and told them that I had a dealer installed spoiler (off the lot) which didn't include the heavy duty trunk springs. They looked at it and said they wouldn't cover the springs because it is not the honda, factory spoiler. I guess I'll try another dealer and also phone the dealer I got the car from in IL.

Check your paper work....its got to show somewhere in there that you bought the car with a spoiler.

My paper work did mention a spoiler, but it turns out that the dealership installed a look-a-like aftermarket wing spoiler and never bothered to mention that to me when I bought the car After arguing with them and a local dealership about the springs (which I was hoping to get under warranty, especially because they gave me a non-honda spoiler) I gave up and bought the springs. I installed both of 'em and my trunk nearly uppercutted me when I first opened it up. I ended up putting one of the standard torsion bars back in and it now opens and hovers at about 3-4" - I like it.

So if anyone is interested in getting the other, stronger bar to see if it helps with their spoiler let me know in PM. I'd be willing to give it up for a reasonable price - it's gonna have to be someone in CA (most likely NorCal) so I don't have to ship it.
