New audio in my 7g.

Finally got around to installing my new speakers. Alpine S Series. Nothing horribly fancy or expensive for that matter. But oh my god, the stock speakers are such GARBAGE compared to the alpines, and im not amping anything. I just swapped out the 6x9's and 6.1/2's in the front, and its fantastic. I have bass now. Which was non existent before. Considered adding a sub, but dont feel the need now. Bottom line, Take a couple hundred bucks and swap those things IMMEDIATELY!! You wont regret it.

EDIT::: Heres a link to the DIY i worked up.

aren't those magnets in the stock speakers ridiculous as heck? when i first saw them, i had them changed immediately! i think that was my very 1st mod now that you mention it.

enjoy the upgraded tunes.

The magnet are small because they are neodymium. This allows them to be just as powerful as a conventional speaker, but requiring less depth. I just finished installing my Type X 6.5's. It was alot of work cutting the door, cutting an MDF ring, cutting the door panel, but it is a massive improvement over the stock. Are you going to amp them, or just run them off the radio? You really can hear the component's full potential when they are amped.

The Best

just wondering are there any 6.5 that will fit perfectly???? i was planning to get some MB quarts for my fronts. and maybe alpine in the back. i dont really care about the back speakers because when i get my sub you wont really hear the back speakers.

Whaa!! ... let me know exactly what you did!
Are your 6.5" components or axial? Did you replace the dashboard tweets or simply turn them off?
How bout the 6.5" woofer itself, was the drilling and mounting the spacers a pain at all?

Sorry for the flood of questions, but it seemed that everyone that I talked to says that if you replace the speakers without an amp you won't notice a thing.

I suppose it depends on what speakers you install, but if you're a living testimony that the speaker only upgrade is totally worth the time & money .. then you're my hero!

Btw, was the upgrade on your '03 coupe, if it is, is your coupe 6MT (180w HU)?

What line of BA ? I heard of a new S line especially for low powered, no amp, HU systems.

Hey xjdMb16a2six, I just finished putting some older model MB Quart RCE 216's in this weekend. They barely fit, but sound real nice. I do have them amped, not running off the stock HU.

Pfff, thats retarded. They sound a million times better, and its not all in my head. I can turn factory bass up to 5 volume level 25 no problem. For me thats enough. Before on stock, at level 2 bass they would buzz like crazy. As far as mounting them, it was simple just took time. I bought some spacers at local audio shop, they cost 12 bucks, but they ensure a perfect clean fit. And as long as you have a good drill to get through the sheet metal, you'll be fine. I'm not sure it was necessary, but I cut the inner part of the grill out. It was simple with a new blade in my utility knife. The speaker's are I think 2-way, not component. And I didnt even mess with the dash tweeters. The 6.5's pretty much drown em out, but they still compliment it just fine. I'm not blastin trebble to full blast anyway.

maybe later later ill rewire the whole enchilada w/ thick wire and throw some amps, capacitors and SUBS... but thats when ive got bank

What speakers did you put in?
So far I'm thinking of the Boston Acoustic S95 or the Alpine Type-R 6x9". Any thoughts on these?

You'll be fine running the stock speaker wires, and if you have an existing kit, it should be a simple plug and play job.

heres a link to the DIY i did.
