For those who went aftermarket on their DVD/NAVI Headunit

Im plannin on swappin my car for a 6speed anytime soon, but I want navi with it w/e I end up doin.

How much would it cost for a custom install of one of those Eclipse DVD Screen HU?

Price of a used 6speed for me would prolly be around 18-20k w/out navi, and 20-22k w/ navi.

Which way is more worth it?

Personally, couldn't tell ya. Only one i've really looked into is the Pioneer N1. Totally standard single din install.
You're talkin custom.

I would recommend the stock Navi over aftermarket. You may need the cubby hole someday for storage and stuff...I've seen the Navi on the coupes. Man, made me wish that I should have ordered it but it's all good. My next car will definitely have Navi.

Gotta agree with that. If you've got the option, do it now. I'm regreting it. You get a lot of extra functionality out of an aftermarket, but OEM navi is just gonna look SOO much cleaner.

I'll be goin college, so I want to conceal it.

I'm guessing since the unit costs $1700 MSRP, and even if I get a good deal on it + installation cost, it'll be more than tryin to find a 6speed with navi. White is such a rare color... same with red...

There's also quite a bit of extra functionality with the OEM that you likely won't get with the aftermarket:

Voice command w/ steering wheel controls
Audio & A/C touch control and visuals
Mileage computer
Integrated GPS components (ant, speed sensor, yaw sensor)
The OEM can aslo be used as TV and DVD screen.

Just to name a few.

you get the majority of that with the Pioneer Avic series.
Problem with consealing in the lower pocket is that you have to custom install something that isn't a full din unit (expensive) or just mount up a GPS and nothing else. Otherwise you have to lose the pocket cover. At least as far as I've seen.

bump.

Any update on installing the AVN5435 into the cubby hole? I'm interested and looking for an installer or a DIY.
