Electric Exhaust Cutout

People have been putting on exhaust cut outs since god knows when, now its time to bring old school back, reinvented to make this mod even easier to use. The electric modified cut out isnt brand spanking new but it allows for a really quick change over from a really loud blowing exhaust to super quite with the flip of a switch.
This is good for those who like the sleeper look but love to throw down some power and a race inspired sound to their cars at WOT.

Prices vary: I have found setups for 200-700 dollars and some do look better than others, but they all achieve the same end result.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6O9uX...eature=related

There are endless videos showing the result of the open and closed sounds. This also appears to ad some really good power gains.
Anyone get down on this? And if so do you have videos?

This is the next mod for sure!

I guess this would go after the catalytic converter? Seems like it would yield some power if the back pressure wasn't too high, but I know nothing about how low it would go and what effects it would have.

Or it could replace the 3rd cat space?
If you get it fabbed in this location it would make it easier to replace with the original cat, putting the car back to stock and allowing you to put it on the next vehicle you buy.

There was someone on here who did this for their 7th gen, forgot the name, but I'm sure if you search, he'll come up. I believe he's sold his setup now though.

Your right this is the original thread from back in the day yo!

Paul has a good idea, pairing a shift light to the opening and closing.
I'm not so hot on that setup, there are a lot out there that seem to have tighter fitment and a cleaner look.

Just think about the gains if paired up with Richie's j-pipe/manual, this guy put down some good numbers in the original dyno he took. And for the $$$ not bad either.

Richie should make this affordable for everyone! (RICHIE?)

I am sure I can get the piping made if there is enough interest. I will try to get a quote next week.

Yeah well I have been up in the air for awhile now contemplating if a cat back would be a good investment or not. It seems like everyone gets a cat back for aggressive sound it adds and little to no gain in HP.

One of the biggest cons to the cat back that its made for one car only (thats 600-$1200+) you don't get your money back when you trade it in, if anything it lowers the value. You have to hope there is a willing sole that will buy it off of you for a half decent price.

Pros for the cut out: great sound when ever you want it and it can be shut off for that totally sleeper mode. Its releases the exhaust before it can get to anything that could restrict it any further, allowing for greater gains.

When its all said and done you can simply take it off the car and use it on your next, even if your next car is a mini van, but god help you if thats the case!

Richie if you get it quoted follow the specs for a the 3rd cat.

Put two flanges on the ends of the Y pipe to be put in place of the 3rd cat, this way you can take it out when ever you want and return your car back to stock.

Of course it will take the place of the 3rd cat with factory flanges. You guys can decide what cutout you want.

I am planning on buying the setup by the end of next week.

My stock 3rd cat will be parted out for its flanges so it can nest in place of the test pipe just behind Richies J-Pipe. Pictures and vids will follow once I get the wiring nicely setup.

I sure hope it sounds good (heard one in person on a 4 banger and it was pretty sweet.)

Whoa don't destroy the stock cat! I'll trade you for some flanges or a test pipe.

I have to say i have driven with the exhaust off of the car and let me tell you it is the worst noise you will ever hear in your life. Not to mention i took it to the track raced a civic and lost i had absolutley no back pressure so it ended up with me losing speed if nething. Granted it was fun as heck at first i was loud and people all stared but after 15 min i wanted to commit suicide. Trust me cut out is fun and not to sway your decsion but i hated the sound a lot.
