question for those who take their car to the track (v6)

so i finally went last night did ok (in my opinion). i could not ****ing break 14.6* (kept getting 14.66, 14.61, 14.68, 14.67, etc) first run out i got a 14.9, then 14.7 then the rest 14.6. i did a 15.1 one time because i spun so bad and then a 21.0 lol because i spun even worse!

my question is, what are you guys launching at and are you leaving TCS on or shutting it off? i shut it off because i know with tcs on it applies pressure to your brakes for when you're on the road so you don't lose control. i was talking to a guy with a newer eclipse GT V6 with basic bolt ons and full interior and he was running low 14s with traction control on and he said he wasnt even launching it. i beat him twice because he missed 3rd but he still got good runs. his best was a 14.1 and he said he's gotten 14.0 before.

my trap speeds were anywhere from 96-98mph and
60' were:
2.467
2.521
2.433
2.402
2.384
2.560
2.591
2.368
2.350
2.440
2.415
2.311

since i am re-doing my system my car is gonna be gutted for about a month and a 1/2 so i will still keep this weight reduction like it is.

i was launching my car anywhere between 2-3 grand. any tips would be helpful!

i didnt dump the clutch completely but i would let off it fast. i tried easing off it sometimes but it's like i was hitting the gas too much, hence the crazy spins

Tires? Suspension mods?

Keep your TCS off, but you are overpowering your tires or not slipping the clutch enough.

nankang needs to be replaced. cheap tires do not hookup.

get motor mounts, new tires, and a LSD tranny.

Thats for sure, i have some econ tires up front for daily driving (235/45/17) and i dont get traction through all of 1st, 2nd and chirp into 3rd. For track use i got some sticky 245/45/17, and that makes a huge diff. So tires alone will improve your times. Motor mounts also, i used to wheelhop like there was no tomorrow before mounts, after installing them, just wheel spin and feels like more power is getting put down to the ground. LSD tranny is a great thing to have but not cheap. So there are definitely things you can do to improve your times.

yea i can't afford LSD and i still have plenty of tread left on these tires so once i need new tires again i'll spend the extra $ and get some good street/track tires. where would i find motor mounts?

hmm. so too much spin launching at 2500. I would think that is perfect rpms, so Id say better tires or more clutch slipping would def lower your 60's by a tenth.

what size rims do you have those tires mounted on? Would the 235s or 245s fit on the stock v6 6 speed wheels?

i know a few people have done 235/57/17 on the 6 spd wheels, but i have TL rims which are 17x8. You can go as wide as 255/40/17 on them.

i actually got my best 60ft time (2.010) which got me 13.1 in the 1/4 before i installed my LSD, motor mounts and have yet to duplicate that time since. although thoese things should help, but tires are the most important thing IMO. BFG gforce DR's are great tires and will fit the stock 17 6spd wheels. i heat them up for about 8-10 seconds and hold the rpm's around 3.5 then dump the clutch.

wut did you launch at? at sac. you only get 2 qualifying runs so i tried 2k so the wheels wouldn't spin off the line. Wanted to try higher but didn't want to waist my 2 runs or be inconsistent.

I kept the RPM's around 2.5k and just launched like I was taking off at a light (except harder). I didn't get a great 60' tho, my best thus far ended up being 2.247..yet I still ran a 14.04, not bad. Stock tires btw. Tires make a huge difference, listen

Thats a really good 1/4 mile time. Did you do that with just the mods listed in your signature?

Thank you..yessir. On that run I trapped 99.71, best trap-to-date is 100.82. The car is high-13 capable, I just gotta figure out how to launch her. I can't wait until exhaust/PC deletes and some new tires...she's gonna be a straight beast

Track driving is much different than street driving. Start practicing if you want to break 13s..with your mods, a decent launch should get you into the 13s with 102+mph trap for sure. Good luck!
