Ok, at least from me it is $600 in labor to swap the engines out.

A good low milage J32A3 is going to run between $1500 and $2500, fluids $60, Timing belt/water pump set while it is out $250.

It's about 6 hours from us. Take Rt. 79 south to Pa Turnpike to breezewood. Then breezwood to 30 to 70 to frederick then 15/340 to virginia through Maryland.

It would be much better to get a TL-P or Oddy ECU and Harness from 02-03, this will give you a ECU that will properly run the new displacement and give you a knock sensor. The J30A1 ECU does not do well with larger engines.

Except for the fact that you're close to Cali and you have plenty of tuners/builders out there - in fact I think AZ has quite a few good import shops as well.

Try living in Indiana. Domestic-ville USA. No good tuning shops, no good build shops. I can't do squat. I could drive out to VA, have Paul do all the work, come back and if I ran into any problem I'd be f'ed. No one would have any idea what he did, have the parts, etc...
