Exhaust Question

How loud would the motor sound when you install a j-pipe, test pipe, and catback? i dont want to do it if its obnoxiously loud.

Honestly, it has more to do with the catback than anything else. I have jpipe, test pipe and Borla and its a bit louder, but more deep than anything else. You could remove the pre-muf and resonater and it would get louder though. It passess the wife test though, and that's all that counts for me lol.

if you go with Borla, Apexi and Magnaflow they are pretty "tame" from what I understand. Comptech and Greddy are a bit louder. Custom is louder depending on how you build it. Taking off pre-muf and resonator makes it louder.

Hope that helps

I have the j-pipe/test-pipe and a custom exhaust with CL-S mufflers, no resonator or pre-muffler and it's not loud at all. It's perfect IMO. Just nice and deep.

Where in CT you from? I grew up in Shelton and lived in Ansonia before I moved to Arizona.

Jpipe adds about 7whp/7wtq and especially helps with our low end torque.

^ Yep, gives nice gains in addition to the catback.

I went to college in New Haven. I miss it big time.

I'm going to be around New Haven this weekend. The Meritt is a gorgeous roadway. Good place for me to exercise the recent mods.

^ Yeah, I loved the Meritt Parkway, especially around this time of the year. Sigh.

is there anyone thats running a true dual on an AV6? i would imagine only F/I guys running a true dual because you would probably lose insane amount of low end on a n/a...right?

When making a custom exhaust are mandrel bends really that important? The motor's only NA and probably not flowing a ton of air so I can't imagine it being a huge issue. Of course I'd rather have mandrel's if possible but no shops in the bay area seem to be able to do that.

like aprevo said we dont want to see the canisters but thank you, but what we are looking for is actually the pipeing itself from the j pipe to the canisters, if you can do so that would be great bro.

i got a same Q, like keek, i have 03 coupe V6 auto, looking to get Riche J-pipe & test pipe along with apexi WS2 cat back exhaust, anyone has any suggestion i don't want the ricer sound from my exhaust, just need sound in lower gears and quite in high gears for HWY traveling, or just get J-pipe & test pipe or any exhaust like comtech etc should i get it.
thanks in advance

i think the j pipe test pipe and apexi WS2 would still be quiet.but if your worried then don't get a test pipe and just get a high flow cat or throw a resonator on it.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I also do, since I cant PM anybody or start my own thread...

I was wondering if anybody has heard of unequal length headers on their accord V6. I've always liked the distinct sound that comes from the exhaust of an STI, which mainly comes from the H4 boxer engine, but the rumbling also comes from the fact that that car comes stock with unequal length headers, which decreases its performance by a little, but gives it the rumble.

Anybody? Bueller?

Thanks!

EDIT: After further research, I realized that v6 engines are even firing engines... which means two cylinders, one per side, fire off at the same time, so unequal length headers wouldn't have the same effect as they do on a boxer engine.

What do they want it to sound like a bumblebee? Tell them how much power it makes over stock and that should shut them up Noise has no direct correlation on power gains If so this Civic DX would be whoopin my as on the daily

Yea Chad a few people have done it, I wish I could point you in the right direction but I know for a fact it has been done. I'd start a new thread if I were you it will get more hits and someone will remember who did it and point you in the right direction.
